Crankshaft position sensor

Hey guys. So I was driving home today and just as I got around the corner my car stalled. Took about 2-3 tries before I got it started again but the dsc and run flat monitor lights came on in yellow and the car felt a bit sluggish. Drove the car home like that and hooked it up to my laptop and got 1 fault code for the crankshaft position sensor:yuck: I cleared the code and went for a short drive and it seems fine, but felt a little sluggish while driving for about 1 second and then went back to normal with no lights coming up. If it is the sensor what can I expect it to set me back? Should I go OEM or generic? Will it be ok to drive until I get a chance to sort it out which will probably only be on Tuesday? ie any risk of damaging something if I do drive it? :yuck:

The biggest risk is the sensor giving way totally and the motor will be dead after that point resulting in a tow.. Goldwagon should be open Tom (sat) depending on where you are..

My 2c is to get oem, i read somewhere that the Bmw especially the E36 don't like aftermarket crank and cam sensor. I'm not sure about later models It's just my 2. Best of luck

Thanks guys. I just drove the car now and it seems fine (didn't stall and isn't sluggish). I suspect maybe its a sign that the sensor is on its way out. Will phone goldwagon and bmw tomorrow if they're open. Hopefully it doesn't stall on me again this weekend. Is it just one sensor? I did a quick google earlier and there's talk about an intake and exhaust sensor if I'm not mistaken.

The intake and exhaust are the camshaft sensors... The crank sensor sits on its own and is independent...
