is there a difference between the bosch and siemens ones?

My 328i cranks but wont start. no fuel and no spark. im almost tempted to take out the CPS from the old 325i.

From what i can see the 328i has a siemens one and the 325i has bosch. 328i has a black magnetic goodie, 325i has a silver one. plugs are slightly different as well.

this is the only way to diagnose now as i dont have a code reader, and dont wanna buy i sensor if i dont have to.

any experience?

I ran 12v's directly to the pump. It went on fuel moved but injectors wont squirt...car wont start.

I heard that a faulty crank angle sensor will not signal the ECU and the ECU will then not activate the fuel or spark systems ...no sure though:fencelook:

yip correct, im going to test the pump today, and change the relay anyway, hope that sorts it out. also, check your cam sensor too...

good luck

So last night My Dad brought me a new crank angel sensor(pirate) looks just like the oem siemens one. fitted it but the car still wouldnt start - decided to remove the intake mani and check the plugs only to find that my cam angle sensor is also damaged. The three wires inside the cable are touching as the coating that goes over the copper is brittle and just crumples and exposes the copper.

anyway, i tried to insulate the wires with tape, cranked it and the car just gave one huge backfire followed by a ball of smoke. Im tired of this m52 now :bangdesk:

please help:cry:

Best run diagnostics, instead of changing parts like that. Cam sensor definitely would now need to be changed

dont have access to a code reader now.

:thumbdo: New siemens crank position sensor and new siemens cam position sensors installed - fuel and main relays replaced, still no start.

The car now cranks as if it had all the spark plugs taken out. no real swing to the motor and it drained a good battery after 3 start up attempts.

Any ideas

A Lexus 1UZ conversion is starting to look like a good idea now:sorry:

Backfire-there was spark and fuel at wrong time .Are all fuses ok ? I have had fuel problem and was fuse no 18 IIRC .Take all spark plugs out ( I know it is a schlep ) and swing motor , does it swing freely ? Any oil or water around plugs ?this causes mis and can stuff coils up .Resistances of sensors ? Bently manual may have values in ohms for reference .
Good luck .

checked all fuses - engine swings freely but sounds funny. I pulled the intake mani and after swinging the injectors were dry...the rail was full of fuel though so i made the assumption that the injectors are not spraying:fencelook:

triple checked everything and meticulously put it back together in good hope but still no startie:thumbdo:

Im about to drive this thing off a cliff...wait, i mean push it off the cliff COZ ITS NOT DRIVING!!!:argh:

just got word - no signal from the ECU:thumbdo:. Can i just simply swap the unit or is there more to it...?

If this is going to be an expensive exercise would it be wiser to get a standalone - spitronics?

Standalone is never wise, you will most likely have to recode the ECU if you swap it. It needs to be done with specialized equipment like GT1.
