Guys

No disrespect to any f10 owners but this 520d is really uninteresting .
It's in SE finish.
It's plush
It's not starved for power

But it's not sure footed
It's not in M finish and I've driven an m sport 520d, whose seats hug and the car just felt so much more planted.

It's a good car overall but perhaps it's just me wanting a firmer ride.

I know I'm going to get questions about the Taxi parked next to it.

That's my weekend money spinner.
I'm a licensed hackney cab driver .... In other words a black cabbie but I work full time .

Hard work never killed anyone and its allowed me to purchase my ///M

The car serves its purpose. A comfortable, fuel efficient exec mobile. Nothing else to it. I've spent quite a bit of time behind a non m sport 520d and its comfortable, easy cruiser and awesome interior.

Why people get an m sport 520d really confuses me. It's designed to be an A-B car. Not a performance car.

When I have a long distance trip I don't want the car to feel hard or feel every bump in the road. I want to put it in cruise control, relax and cruise.

That's the reason why my X1 has none of those options. No real point for it.

M-Sport is just for the looks IMO, I never see it as a performance addition.

I agree, It looks great!

But it makes the car a lot harder than it needs to be

It does make difference to the way the car handles on the road . It's IMO a more stable car.
The aggressive diffusers front and back do it for me.

Yes, the SE is comfortable and I used to have one but when I sit in the drivers seat , it just isn't contoured enough to make you feel supported.
You kinda roll about with the body roll of the car - Can anyone identify with this ?

I drove an E60 520d Sport today, so I'm not so sure how relevant this is but the I LOVED the ride! The car felt planted and the seats really gave you such great support and yet the car was very comfortable over Maritzburg's rather bad roads

This is totally relevant , m sport bumpy ride isn't really hard now, is it.
It's firmer I'd agree but not slammed hard with a bottoming out feeling .

SE just feels so floaty

Have yet to drive an SE/equivalent here. I can report that my Golf Sportline has a more uncomfortable ride :fencelook:

It's not surprising you found the 520d uninteresting, the 5 series is a fantastic car with a wide range of appeal but you need to spec it in a way that is suitable for your requirements.

Take my moms 528i for example. A nice comfortable car to potter around town in, big fat comfort seats that give massages and all that stuff. It's got a nice classy colour scheme that's a little bit different but as its a standard model it's all rather understated and not aggressive at all. And lots of nice options for convenience, perfect for her.

But if I spec'd the car for myself, not her, I would have got something completely different. If you want nice hugging seats, spec the sports or comfort seats. If you want it to look a little more bad ass, put on the M-sport pack. If you want it to be exciting to drive, fit different suspension and steering, you got sports suspension, active suspension, active anti roll bars and active steering to choose from. You can really turn it into a really sharp car to drive. Throw in a decent engine like a 535i and it's a different beast all together from what you drove.
