Could my clutch be done???

When i turn the traction control off in my car and do a quick sprint start, guess u could call it a drag start, and i drop the clutch to go theres this loss in power.

The wheels dont spin and with a moan the car forces itself to higher refs but i dont seem to be going anywhere. Its as if the wheels has so much traction that the car doesnt have enough power to counter act it. I know thats not true about the traction of the tyres im just trying to explain how it feels.

Could it be that the clutch is done or that its slipping or is it just down right attributed to this rookie driver. In simple robot to robot dices im struggling to beat corsas because of this...

Help!

That sucks to hear... The symptoms suggest that it could be the clutch. If the engine revs more freely than normal then it could be the clutch. Do you have the standard tyres and tyre sizes on the car?

Got standard tyres and rims on the car. Dont have any problems further except when i plant the accelarater, drop the clutch with traction off

Does the car just rev when fast changing from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd i.e. no chirp of tyres ?
When cruising in 5th gear at say 3500 revs or so does the engine pick up speed when you push the accellerator to the floor ?

Both are a sign of a clutch on its way , you may ride for six months and need replacing or it could go bad in a quick time depending how you drive .

the wheels refuse to spin when i drop the clutch and hit the pedal from standing start. Just keep in mind this happens when its not raining. If its raining the wheels will obviously spin. The car accelarates and revs like im acctualy doing a 0 - 100 time but the car is only moving at half the power and pace it normal goes when u do a running start or do a start with traction control ON. It does this through all the gears till i actually slow down or stop and then it just continues as normal

It sound to me like it can be your Duel mass flywheel! when it starts to wear its almost imposible to spin the car!
when its clutch like you explain, it will sound funny when you snap change between gears almost as if revs go high and droping before it go's again! but that will be between each gear! and aspecialy from 3rd - 6th!

Best is take gearbox out and check your flywheel! you will feel if the 2 parts turn to easely! but if you swap flywheel you can just as well do the clutch!

Have the same on the 330i. Its the flywheel and clutch, would have swapped the flywheel a while ago but fell off my chair when I phoned the dealer. Anyone know where I can get a new flywheel?

If I remember correctly the dealer charge around 12k for a new frywheel. I am wondering if the flywheel needs replacing isn't it just better to go for an after market one?

Took the car out for a few runs yesterday. Warmed up the tires a bit at the beginning and pulled up next to a subaru forester. Know they arent that fast but fun to check what happens. Off the line, with some or other luck everything hit the sweet spots with refs and traction and the car just shot off. I know i only have a 2.8l but i didnt even know the car was capable of that accelaration. After that run the car got up to its normal shananigans so i think it could be the flywheel.

Thanx so much for the help guys. Will keep you posted
