Coolant Leak (BMW 330i B48 G20)

Hi

I have a coolant leak on my BMW (mileage 90k)- diagnostics was done (pressure test) , and found that the oil filter housing needs to be replaced and I assume that due to the close proximity of the oil filter to the thermostat , that the thermostat also needs to be replaced at the same time so I will do that at the same time.

I will purchase the parts and supply.

I am looking for recommendations for workshops that can replace these for me.

The car is out of motorplan hence looking for an independent workshop.

Regards
Shane

You can also change to a metal oil filter housing instead of the plastic one. Marginal price difference. Did this not to long ago on my daughter's Mini.
I have heard many who purchased the metal OFH stating that in their experience it actually does not seem to last as long as the OEM plastic one.
They suspect due to the heat transfer of the metal it wears away the seal / gasket between the OFH and engine quicker. 🤷‍♂️

It is however cheaper than OEM from BMW which is around R6k.

I believe Goldwagen also stock a metal version. General consensus is to reuse the oil cooler section from the BMW part on these aftermarket metal ones. BMW sell the OFH without the cooler installed as well, in which case you'd need to reuse the oil cooler from your original one anyways.

Thanks - were did you purchase it from?
Was done by Mini Motor Works. They supplied and fitted, so not sure where they got it from. They did say that they've done a lot of them, given that it's such a common failure point. You could maybe call them and check. Really good workshop and team. Supplied and fitted was like R5k in total.

Thanks for the all the info. OEM from BMW is ~ R10600 inc,(best price I could get) . Let me check with BMW on the OEM Oil Filter Housing without the cooler (and reuse the original).

Makes sense... I'm still okay if I just have to change the gasket every few years. These plastic housings are terrible. Have the same issue with the stupid plastic water pump on the VW EA888 and the plastic sump (at least there is a metal option for this). All these plastic parts just seem to survive the motorplan stage and then die.

Ouch, I think I paid R58xx incl from BMW Century City - this was without the oil cooler.
