Cool 1999 e38 740i Sport on Gumtree

http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-cars-bakkies/other/1999-bmw-740i-individual/1001438867010910393675309

No word on mileage and dealer thinks its an Individual but from my understanding its a Sport. Has sport seats and M steering wheel and may also have a slightly shorter final drive ratio from what I have read. Also is vanos v8.
With a polish, set of rims and cleaning up the headlights this would be a very cool car. Price is steep though.

That's not a sport, it's an individual. Sport would have different bumpers and rims. The seats are standard although they look like E39 sport seats (correct me if I'm wrong) but look at the headrests, how they're indented into the seat; sport seats don't do that. It's also facelifted.

Lovely interior, but the red is a bit much. Been for sale for a while.

No indication of mileage either.

That Car has been on sale, for well over a year. I enquired about it in September last year, and if I remember it had fairly high mileage

If high mileage, that car isn't worth more than 60k.

Just found the email from them, Car also doesn't have any service history bar the M/plan history

I wouldn't pay more than 45k in that case, and respray the thing, give it a major service and suspension overhaul. Then keep it forever cos you'll never get the money back...

unless it is done after market, those headlights are LCI for the E38, and thus post 2000, I know, as I have the 2000 E38 and it still has the "square" headlights, and not the curved underneath

Yup, that's why I said it was facelifted.

It's either been changed or they have the year wrong in the advert.

you drive a hard bargain, although the advertised price for this one is very steep

I would have thought R55 to R60k is a more respective price, at least that is what my E38 is worth to me, or is the price I would sell it on at.

Is this a "protection" model?

Anyone have the VIN number?

I might be wrong, but wasn't the "protection" only offered in the 750i model
due to the weight of the protection, I would think that the V12 is a requirement

The lower-end engine classes could have the thicker windows as an option, but not full on protection. That was reserved for the top of the range.

like mine, almost feels like triple thick glass, everyone thinks its bullet proof.....let them believe it, I doubt anything over a .22 will be stopped, but at least I am safe from smash and grab

F/L is from 99 onwards. The change in 2001 was to the clear indicator lenses and the colour coded skirts. Being that it's an individual, i wonder if it was possible to order clear indicator lenses and colour coding in 1999?

Double-glazing is always confused with bullet-proofing by the ignorant peeps who sell E38s. That's a ridiculously high-specced E38. Never seen one with the Contour seats and sports steering wheel. Pity it doesn't have M-Pars.

Do the new 7s and S class cars still come with these type of windows ? I haven't paid much attention to them.
