Take your time and buy the cleanest example of a 6 cylinder model you can afford. Clean unmolested
Parts are becoming scarce and expensive and finding the little things you need to get it pristine is difficult and expensive.
BMW no longer stocks a lot of the stuff.
I would personally look for the nice to have items:
1. Sunroof
2. Leather seats (recaro if possible)
3. Electric windows
4. Power steering
I would go either 320i, 323i, 325i, (325is or 333i if the universe is on your side). I love the sound of the m20
