insist on service history if possible. if certain things havent been done, they will become your responsibility soon..and things may get out of hand after a while.
eg. things like belt, electric water pump, and other general maintenance things.

E90 inline six engines, i have always maintained are bullet proof.
Obvious stuff to check would be to see if services have been done etc.
Check oil filter housing for oil leaks.
Check if the water pump has been replaced.
Check suspension components
check that rims are all straight.
140 000kms is nothing for these engines. Don't expect it to be a high performance car, its not one.
I have over 270 000 on my inline six and going strong.

I enjoy mine. Had a few things replaced (wear and tear) and encountered one issue so far - currently sitting on 130k odd mileage (You can have a look at my showroom thread as I've updated it with the things I've done). Just really depends on how it was previously maintained and the current condition it is in.
I've got the auto and I average 650km a tank with normal driving. Majority of my commute is highway with some traffic here and there. Mixed driving (city and highway) I get about 550km a tank. Just really depends on the stop-and-go and how you drive it.
Consumption has varied between 9l/100km to about 14l/100km (once again - dependent on how you drive).

If it's not a BMW maintained car (after MP) then you're probably more concerned with the service records post MP. You can always get a printout of the Service/Warranty from BMW but you should probably dig into finding out where/who worked on the vehicle after MP and see what was replaced etc.

In the few years I have had mine, the only real parts I had to replace were (and my car was raced the kak out of it before lol)
waterpump and thermostat
front brake pads
rear abs sensor
front shock mounts
rear shocks

Surprisingly, my water pump hasn't let go yet (touch wood). In the last 3 years I've owned it I haven't had any issues at all. Biggest service bill came because of front shock mounts, front discs and pads, but no major repair.
Fuel consumption is not the best, I average 11l/100km in urban driving. Long distance on the freeway, I've seen 8.3l/100km.

Thank you all for your comments guys. I went to see the car and it looked like it was in good condition to me. Only problem is that I can't get the car's FSH from BMW because they say they are not allowed to give me because I'm not the owner yet.
