My vehicle used to have those services, they expired, I don't mind not having it active, as long as I have Apple CarPlay I have an old iPhone that sits in the car for that.

Hi.. I'm an android user and was thinking of doing just this.
I have a 2018 420d GC, not even sure if it has the latest software but it does have Apple CarPlay but no Android Auto. 😞
So thinking of getting a cheap old used iPhone8 (need the wireless charging) and using that only in the car.

Does CarPlay allow Google Maps to be used instead of the default Apple Maps?

I use Google Maps on Apple CarPlay in my F90. You just need to have the app on your phone.
