Did this the other day in almost the exact same spec (great choice ), price came to ZAR1 000 103.00! hahaha i was quite taken aback and kept the screenshots to remind myself that a mil isnt too bad if BMW sell 320ds for that much.

Yoh and to think that it's "just" a 320d.

People better spec these things to the T for us second hand buyers :roflol:

Hence the recent interest on current and older model 320d's...hold on to those gents, they'll become instantl classics once new 3 series is launched

Dealers will automatically spec large batches of cars and have them on the showroom floors pretty soon. I guess M-sport + Sunroof would be among the main minimum requirements. Batch orders from dealers would naturally allow them to offer some good discounts, compared to individually speccing a car yourself.

I learnt this the hard way back in 2013 - I specced a MB A180 with AMG spec and a few bells/whistles, but with a manual box. The price ended up being more than an auto model that was already pre-specced by the dealer as part of his initial batch. (The deal fell through for other reasons and I ended up getting a pre-specced A3 Sedan instead).

The smart buyer, who wants a new car, would rather haggle hard on a last-run-of-stock F30 330d with all the dealer ticked bells/whistles. But, you will need to hold on it for a good few years.

Another thought:
I wonder whether the locally made X3 2.0d would end up cannibalising the new (imported) 320d sales? Surely, locally made stock would have better margins to discount against? Add in the popularity of SUVs (and the free option to tick a spare wheel on the new X3).

Some super expensive and (in my opinion) unnecessary options there.

I’m not saying I wouldn’t enjoy/want most of them, but at R17k for individual leather on the dash and another R17k for HUD it really gets a bit ridiculous.

You could spec the same car with the absolute “must haves” and I believe the price should be a lot more comparable to similiar cars in that segment.

I think the term Must have is dependent on the person.

I remember someone bought a car here and I was thinking why buy such an expensive car and not have a sunroof. They explained that to them sunroof is not important but xenons are. To me that is silly but to them it was a good deal.

343K in options?

On the extras alone you can buy a second hand F30 with some bells and whistles.

I would most probably only spec the car with HK sound, tow bar,Msport ,sunroof, auto and laser lights. Things like electric seats etc don't really phase me as I probably only set the car's seat once every two months when my SO drives the car.

Seems the current F30 320d LCI is the a bargain considering there is no power increase in the new shape.

Actually at that price to me more and more sedans are making no more sense to buy.. For perspective look at the new G05 X5 3.0d... They list for 1.19mil in base spec, I'd rather drive a base X5 than a loaded 320d .. My 2c

It is a newer engine with two turbos, to reduce lag.
But, agree, not much difference in outputs.

I agree with the enlarged part if they both cost the same money, but between a loaded 320d vs a base X5 is still R200k,so that's still not really comparable price wise IMO

Moer...R1mil for a 3series.. :dunnoanymore::dunnoanymore:

People will buy it - mostly due to intricate balloon finance deals. On a monthly basis, it will cost less to buy a 1 bar 3 series on a GFV deal instead of a normal instalment sales deal on a R700k used car (cannot get balloon on a used car). However, in total, the GFV deal will cost more if you want to settle at the end (or get into a new deal).

This also explains why we struggle to sell our used cars. People cannot get finance for normal instalment sales deals and would rather go for a new car on GFV.
