Cone Filter on a 318is?

:nonono:...rather try to make up an induction kit which will let cold air into the factory airbox....cone filters work well with turbo's but think of the hot air circulating in the engine bay when driving in traffic

You need cooler and more air to make more power.
Aftermarket / Cone filters does not give both.
I had aftermarket stuff also and it doesnt make any diffs.
in fact, it causes warmer air to be consumed by your engine. And hotter intake air means...less power.

Rather mod your airbox and try to isolate it from engine bay heat.

OEM BOX is the best , rather invest in a aftermarket panel filter. The gains outta cone filters is just pointless

Remove the restrictor in the OEM box and have a cold air feed pipe leading to it

yoh thanx guys for all the advice ... who knew there soo much to think about, i just put branches n freeflow coz manifold had a crack on the welds\ so the induction will have to wait was just doing some research btw what about the k&n replacement air filter ? heard some good things about it

it revs much easier now thats for sure... sounds great alil bit loud if cruising at 80 km/h but other than that its awesome. fuel consumption hasn't really changed but it was pathetic to begin with, the o2 sensor is broken

Glad it turned out well.. Maybe a small silencer would help?

Good to know there is other 4 pot nutters out there.

Just replace the OEM filter each time you change the oil, that is the best thing to do.

Moranor, will try and explain the mods i did to the airfilter box. I took out the pipe that leads into the box and blanked off the hole. Then i cut a new hole facing the incoming air and took the old "scoop" thing that clips to the grille next to the radiator and fitted it on the other side of the radiator turned upside down so it can clear the expansion tank of the radiator. Then shortened that pipe so it fits into the airbox. I also removed the funny box that sits behind the radiator and is connected to the airbox with a small diameter pipe and closed up that hole as well. Hope this makes sense!

Moranor, good point! Never thought to do that. Have just painted the kidneys black and whilst they were off i modified the rubber on the side of the radiator so that the intake trumpet can get more air from through the grille. Waiting for my new radiator so that i can try the car. Hope to fill up over the weekend to determine what the petrol consumptions is.

the main reason i say you should run both is because depending on how low the bottom intake is you stand a chance of sucking up a large amount of water that could end up in your engine if you unlucky...

with the high and low intake tube if the bottom one gets water the air box will rather suck air from the top intake because water is heavier so you basically eliminate that risk :)

no Coisman we talking about the intake not the exhaust

NOW I understand!!!! Thats why woman have a mouth and a nose, so if the bottom intake, a.k.a the mouth, gets full of "water" from all the sucking :mmm: she can still suck air through her nose! :mmm:

what ever floats your boat, but i prefer to fill the mouth with more interesting things than water :fencelook:

Lets get back on topic shall we.
I have a K&N flatpan filter that fits inside the standard airbox. It makes NO difference in performance, well, none I can put on paper, but the cost saving is better, cause you dont have to buy a new filter all the time, just take it out, clean it, spray it with the oil needed, and there you go... filter good as new. :thumb:
