condition based service.

Hi guys.

I'm a little confused. I heard that the E90 service is called condition based service. I understood this as the car dertimes when u must change the oil. My concern is my car uses oil. It used about 5 litres in the last 4 months. I just filled abt 1lt a wek ago. Now it says I must do service and change oil. Last service was done in march and I done abt 10 000km.

No doubt I will service it if the says so. But I don't understand why its asking me to service.

The condition based service indicators are based on fuel consumption and followed by the agents when your car is on motor plan.

Since your car is off motor plan, DO NOT follow the indicators

Being a diesel it is advisable to change your oil and oil filter every 10000kms

When doing each service reset the respective service indicators via the OBC, so that it doesn't pop up annoying you at odd times

Your excessive oil usage is not normally buddy :thumbdo:

Get it checked out urgently

Im not a huge expert but even though you're topping your oil up it doesnt mean there is a full sump of fresh oil there, there is still going to be old oil in there, your filters will also need replacing and such...

Hi. I need to check it out. But scared might be something expensive. I really don't have money plus got so much to do on the house.

But fuel consumption is ok. Also no oil leaks on the floor. I think its burning the oil somehow. I think its either valve stem seal or oil rings.

I'm going to do full servic disc and brakes in july.

I changed filters in march also.

Thx. Yes I do. I check it once every week. The weird part is that the dip stick will show full and thn all of a sudden it drops in a day to half a dip the stick. I will fill again monitor it. It keeps staying full and then all of a sudden drop again. But I have the oil level warning also to protect me.

The wierd part is that it only starting this after I serviced it in march. I bought the car in dec last year and it never used any oil. After I serviced it at a mech it started using. The first time I noticed it was after the service I drove to dbn when I got back the oil light came oil. Dipstick was empty. I topped it up. Lasted abt a month then dropped again to half.

If any mech can advise will be appreciated.
A frien told me the turbo is going cause he rubbed his finger in the exhaust and says its throwing oil out the exhaust. But being a diesel I think its the black smoke. I don't know.

Cause car is running very strong. No issues. Speed consumption all perfect. I don't know.

But I started saving for turbo 500 a month cause its on 155000km and turbo has not been changed as yet.

Wish I cud just win the lotto. Lol.

You need a new mechanic :thumbdo:

Highly unlikely the Turbo :fencelook:

That's soot from the exhaust, perfectly normal

That mech and I got into a fight that day. I'm never taking my car back there. I bought some tools after that and ended up changing the filters myself. I wanna learn to do the services myself. But I'm clueless about cars. I know so little. And bmw is too complicated.

I have a contact number a mech in alrode a fellow fanatic recommended. Will see.

Or maybe a fanatic wants to come help me. Or I come to a fanatic. I personally drink but will be happy to get a 12 pack for the fanatic or cook nice indian curry lunch. Lol.

I wonder if the mech perhaps used an oil thats too thin? We had this problem with my dad's E240. We serviced it with the oil that is recommended by Mercedes-Benz (10W40) and this thing consumed huge amounts of oil, like 2 litres in 1000km. At the next service we changed the oil to what our mech recommended (20W50 Multigrade) and the oil consumption has gone back to within spec of about 1 liter ever 4000 or so km's.

:dunno:

Im not a diesel guy at all but sounds like the wrong oil has been used, once again I am not a diesel mech so I am unsure on what is the right oils to use on them in the first place, I have never serviced a diesel before either...
Hopefully the wrong oil used hasn't cause premature wear on the components/seals.
