Concerned about coolant level

Hi,

Need to top up the coolant level every second week in my 2001 318i (about 170000km). Is this normal? Bit paranoid about overheating cars.

Hey there. Definately not normal. Check your water bottle and pressure test cooling system for cracks.

check all your pipes, i had a similar problem on my E36, turns out i had a pin hole in the one water pipes that runs under the intake man. to the head. it would only leak when the car was hot (pressure expanding the pipe) changed that and not a problem since.
check your pipes and clamps.
move one what Fuzzy says, i to had that problem with my old ladies E46, the water bottle was cracked.
