discussion Comparison of 2015 vs high mileage 2015 vs low mileage 2017 F06 640Ds: purchase warnings

A friend of mine saw my f06 2017 640d msport model with 86,000km and has gone shopping for something similar.

So far he can only get a 2015 f06 640d grand coupe msport model with 156,000km and a 2013 grand coupe individual model with 133,000km.

Help me advise him on key differences in these cars in terms of infotainment, any software updates, fuel usage, recalls, differences in engines (if any) and other long term maintenance risks. He is planning to keep the car for 4 to 7 years .

Are there any glaring items to watch out for and significant changes from 2013 to 2018????

Seems as if it is the N57D30T1 engine throughout the F12/F13 life. He has your car as an example to know what it should look like and how it should drive and perform etc.
I have heard that the 40d engines, even on the newer B57, seem to have some issues with the small turbo (the one which provides boost lower in the rev range). How much of a problem this is, I am not sure but something to keep in mind.
Swirl flap & EGR delete I believe is a good idea on the higher mileage engines, especially if you plan on keeping it for quite some time and adding a fair bit of mileage to it.
Get the gearbox serviced at ZF if the mileage is low enough and you plan on putting lots of mileage on it.

Some of the 640d's for sale do not look great IMO. So best he does his due diligence and thoroughly looks into the history of the vehicle before purchasing.

I'm with Psyclown on his points. If your friend has at least 50k to repair stuff then it could be fine but he should be prepared to spend to get it up to scratch.
