Coilover fears

most guys just buy coilovers because they want 'race car' parts on their car :fencelook:
most will only set the height once to the level they want then leave it alone corner weighting is not even considered...
most people should go with a good spring shock combo and I always advise this because:
springs are already optimum spring rate for the ride height
corner weighting is also a designed into the spring
on a lower budget you can afford to buy better dampers with well developed damper curves because the package is cheaper
in the end a coilover is just a spring and a shock with a threaded shock... its how these interact with the car that is most important... unless you willing to setup coilovers correctly they offer very little benefit over a good spring shock combo...

even without a spring change the right damper will make a big difference... unfortunately on the M cars often the shock spring combos cost about the same as decent coilovers... so your choice is not so easy...If you do go coilovers the lowering rates of the spring kits are a good guideline for what is optimum for the suspension geometry till you get corner weighting done...

So the question is who has the knowledge to tune a coilover setup...what can one expect to pay for a tuned setup?

I would not recommend e46 dampers on an e90 even if they can fit suspension geometry and weight of the car is vastly different...
not corner weighting the car will not suddenly turn it into a pig dog but you are loosing the only real performance advantage coilovers have over a spring shock combo... think of it this way do you feel the balance change of the car when you have a passenger along?
on the street it makes very little difference if you chasing lap times its a different story because you need to optimize as much as possible
as I said earlier the most important part of any setup is the damper these have the greatest impact on how a car handles and rides weather they threaded or not... dampers should be your 1st consideration when laying out a budget for suspension upgrades...
