Clutches (LUK etc.)

Hey guys, so I am aware of the fact that my M535i will be requiring a new clutch. The one in the car currently is not even the correct clutch, apparently it's for an E12 518i!! So it's gotta be sorted.
I've been doing some research, and it seems the following are the parts required to replace the existing clutch:

21211223120 - EXCH-Clutch Disk asbestos-free
21211225576 - EXCH-PRESSURE PLATE
21517521471 - CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING

Anybody know, other than dealers, where in Cape Town I might be able to find these?

Agents price.for.clutch is around 5.5k. I know my 528i uses the same.clutch. Research i did says the clutch is a 500nm design.

Research i did says the clutch is a 500nm design.

What on the clutch is 500nm?

well... im not 100% sure of the facts, but the research i did online would indicate that the clutch is capable of handling more than the 200-300nm that these cars produce. its apparently rated for 500nm. so they say.

all i know for certain is its a over-specced clutch.

Will do Anton. The parts I got were directly from ETK, so my assumption would be that it's the correct part. I've also heard somewhere that there could be an issue with a torque rating on these clutches. However, IF the motor is stock, which mine is, then it should be ok. You're not going to be doing heavy acceleration with it, but it will be more than adequate.

Fun fact, nm is a measure of distance......Nm on the other hand is a measure of torque.

So judging by that I should be safe with the clutch parts requested. I saw a kit advertised for R2000 give or take. I know the parts aren't necessarily expensive, it's the labour.

last time with discount i get agents was like 5.5k, nobody else seem to be able

Aaaah.....lol. I've requested parts from the supplier rather than the agents. I've got the LUK part numbers if you're interested? I won't buy from the dealership cos I know they'll rip me a new one. But as soon as I get the pricing I'll let you know Anton.

Gave them the part numbers I required and they found it for me. Going to order it next week. 50% deposit when shipping from overseas. +- 10 weeks for delivery. Maybe sooner.

they are very reasonable.. my buddy bought his e90 M325i clutch from them and the DMF. it was the 3rd of the price that you would get it for from the agents and then also has warrantees and so on.

plus, that car bites now. geez.

10 weeks i admire your patience, when i did "the works" on my e39 530d for months i would wait for parts... then 1 fender liner arrives...2 weeks later another fender liners arrives.. and so on... was terrible.
