Cleaning air conditioning vents

Good people

I have a problem with my car's air conditioning vents. They have become so dirty with sand and dust that they are no longer conducive to my family's health plus I have sinus issues already.

My question is how can I get in there to clean them out properly? I would assume I'd have to remove the front covering. How do I this?

Thank you in advance.

I think there are screwed under the trim and they pull out , there are some plastic clips there as well so be careful . And if you removing the Centre vents , theres a wire that attaches to the centlre wheel . Its also a little more tricky to get out as you could break the vent in two if the clips break.

Have you tried using one of those bristle brushes and maybe earbuds to clean it before removing ?

I will try take pics when I eventually get inside my car again but I've tried the ear buds, feathers off feather dusters and I've even tried paint brushes. It's in there. Problem is I stay on a farm and my car is constantly around sand and dust.

Hmm I bought two brushes from midas some time back sort of like a retractable knife i.e. bristles are about 5cm when extended so they go into the vents and remove all dirt and dust. One is braoder and one very narrow to get in the nooks and crannies.

A paintbrush (addis zero bristle loss also might be a good alternative).

Do you remember the name of the brushes from Midas?

I recently did research about this on my e36... there is a filter that can be replaced but that is a small mission to get there but very doable from the engine bay side.

Not sure if its the same location as mine...

Useful to know hope this helps.

For e36: think the 1st one aircon and the 2nd one internal air filter... I must check this next week not sure about the 1st one according to BMW there only one under the cubby

I suggest you get a new pollen filter and to get some wurth aircon disinfectant for a funges develops in the system and the spores they release tend to cause heavy sinus effects
