It really depends on whether one has the skills required to buy an example which is run down and then rebuild it.
I heard of a white one with its engine in the boot recently sold for R150k and I assure you it will cost another R150k to assemble that motor.
It really adds up very quickly and before you know about it the financial commitment made, borders on the ludicrous.
Roughly 1 year ago a grey one was exported to the UK at well above the R500K mark and it certainly was not as clean as this.
In SA we got roughly 95 cars and the build of European RHD cars was roughly 180 which is not exactly an abundance of cars.
Take the time to do a European search on e28 M5 RHD and you shall see that irrespective of an individuals opinion the cars are darn expensive and are all priced in the R500k to R1m bracket.
In closing it may be well worth remembering that often times the price is determined by availability and if one is bent on getting a specific item which is no longer made one needs to pay that which the seller determines to be "fair" value.
To those who alluded to the seller being optimistic you are equally right and wrong.
As to the maroon M635, that recently changed hands at R650k and the Ks recorded are correct.

While I'd have no interest in this car (as if I could afford it!!!) surely from a sellers point of view it makes sense to just pay 20k to get the car 100% perfect and then sell it? I don't get that side of things.
Either way - car does look awesome and GL for the dude selling (hopefully it doesn't go overseas - we need to keep some cool cars down here!)
