Chipping E39 530d auto - what problems?

i wish the 150kw motor was put in the e39,thats good numbers(i wasnt taken a dig at ur car,some ppl have the 135kw motor and claim those figures wen the injectors just simply will never reached that power)

I would like to take a drive in a 135kw version of this engine just to feel the differences. Would be interesting to feel what a 15kw difference feels like.

The problem (if you can call it a "problem") is that my car performs very well and i am happy with the performance. If i say very well, very well to my knowledge as i have not been in any other E39 530d auto to compare it to. In the end i am not at all sure if i do want to chip/remap it, if i take into account the greater possibility of the newfound power and torque breaking the gearbox. Leave sleeping dogs well alone.

@solo,not a hard life,its sometimes get driven hard,mainly highway hard from 3rd,and if i do alot of town driving i put the gbox in sport so it pulls off from first and not from 2nd,im averaging 7.2-7.6 so not alot of racing,

This box doesn't work like that. At least not mine. If I come to a dead stop (or very nearly), it always pulls off in first. The only time it doesn't pull off from first is when I put it in manual and don't select first...

mine pulls off from 2nd almost all the time wen its warm,only wen its cold in the mornings ,it pulls off from first and thats also rarely

My 2002 E39 525 FL used to do that and my 330d also does this! Its only if you put your foot flat does it wake the fekk up and kick down to 1st else it thinks pulling off in 2nd is a grand idea.

I think it does this to give a smoother driving experience as when you pull on in 1st in these cars its quite hectic!

i believed that to,and only once you reset the tcu and it relearns your driving style will it correct itself to pulling off in first,

Hi, this is my first post. I recently, 5 months ago, bought a 2003 530D A/T. Is there an easy way to tell if the ECU was reprogrammed, or if it was chipped? I have since driven the E60 530D, and the difference in power was quite noticeable. Thanks for the forum.

Spawn, from what you have written re "dicing", i assume that you do not pamper your E39?? I am trying to determine if your car is leading a "hard" life and still you have no gearbox or turbo problems? If that is so then it is a good indication of how good these cars are to handle all that you throw at them and still come back for more! :thumbs:

i have an 02 530d auto, i chipped it at 202000km.

running 170kw and 500nm's.

now at 220000km and no issues!

only shit thing is the turbo lag in 1st gear,is that common or just my car??

mine boosts from 1600 full boost i take it at maybe 2200ish

mine is plug and play,been on for about 20k km,auto has no issues so far

330d had a different plug and play for around the same milage as mine,has now moved over to software for ecu and tcu,on its 3rd week now also no issues

What did you load? ECU remap or dastek unichip? Reason I'm asking is if you have a wiring loom plugged into your ecu or were the wires cut and spliced into?

neither,power box chip,fools ecu ,plugs into the fuel rail,can be problematic on fuel pumps........but mods are mods so anything can be problematic
