Chef's E39 530d

I've posted this problem on another thread somewhere, but thought I'd need my own thread to post pics.

I have a problem with the sunroof on my E39, however I think it may be a general problem and not only related to the E39 model specifically.

The glass will not tilt up. The motor works when you press the button in, so I know it's not the motor causing the problem. I've done some research and found that it may be some link or arm that has dislodged or has broken. The roof slides open and closed (back and forth) perfectly fine. Just no tilt. When I press the button in (in order to tilt), the roof releases so that I'm able to lift it up with my hands.

So, I'd like to know if anyone out there knows of a specialist that will be able to tell me exactly what the problem is, the procedure of fixing, as well as the cost of fixing without telling me they need to book the car in for the day and strip it to find the problem.

I can't be the only one that has had this problem, and so it must have been rectified by someone before.

I tried taking pics but don't really see much, other than that it's dirty:

Please please please, if anyone knows, help me out with contact details.
Much appreciated.

I've had this problem before, got into a bit of a panic. I just did the sunroof reset procedure (forgotten the process).

Not sure if it would work for you but it's worth a try.

I've done this. However, my sunroof has not lost its memory. Although I wish it was simply this case :(

Try calling Sunroof Boyz. Speak to Johan. 011 9023449. He sorted out the sunroof on my X5.

Thank you

I have sent them an email in the interim and will await their response in the morning. If nothing by lunch time, I'll phone them. Seems like the perfect company.

Common issue. You have two broken plastic things. 700 bucks each from BMW. I have the same issue and trying to get someone to fit mine.

If you go over a bump you may hear the broken arms rattling.

The sunroof rattles a lot on the bumpy roads :fencelook:

Mine rattles 24/7. Well, not the sunroof per say but the slider that has come of it's rails and moves back and forth.

Good luck fixing your problem.
