:biglol::roflol::praise::praise::praise: Bikini fight, definitely

The car was serviced almost 2 weeks ago but by a guy I know who doesn't take shortcuts. Will take it back to him tomorrow to have it checked. Possible he let something slip his mind. I'm hoping it's not major

Got underneath this evening, but not for too long... Also couldn't see too much from where I was. I might have it checked out tomorrow. So far (after driving her pretty hard tonight) no further leaks...

I'm still undecisive about doing the software... Really would like the extra power for when needed. So far I've had mixed advise from many people. Some say the gearbox is not built for the power and won't last. Others say the gearbox is built like a bullet and is completely indestructible.

Anyone know anyone with first hand experience with an E39 530d who has had software done?

Welcome to the Forum.

you have a great looking car.

the e39 530D auto has the GM gearbox. these boxes are rated at 380nm torque. The e39 530d came with a 142kw, 410nm output engine. This means that the engine is already making more power than the gearbox could handle. this small difference would not make a difference on a stock car, however once you add software youre gonna gain between 50 - 150nm torque which could spell disaster for your gearbox.

with that being said, I do remember somebody being on this forum who owned an e39 530d with software for many years with no troubles.

there are a few tuners on this forum who would be able to advise you correctly. These include Xcede Performance, Promotec, and Project Shift Racing. All of them are experienced, friendly tuners who would be able to provide you with the best advice. They would also be able to give you software to meet your specific needs.

Hope this helps and once again welcome to the forum. I love your car.

My 330d has the same gearbox as your car and same engine, I have done software and have been driving her hard all the time, the gearbox has never given any issues, my turbo has poped but that isnt due to software, thats due to the fact that the turbo lived a long healthy life and was time to say cheers!

My car was making 576nm then I got stage 3 software which made a massive increase in power so I am guessing it was making well over 600nm ATW and my gearbox never gave any shit!

From the research I have done on the net I have found that the people who have opened these gearboxes up to replace the lubricants are the people that have had shit with the boxes as they are supposed to have a lifetime lubricant inside and BMW warn to not open or change that lubricant, but their are also people that have done software and the gearbox has broken, but on the other hand people have had these boxes break with no software and no mods, so in my opinion you either have a gearbox thats going to break or you don't its luck of the draw.

I think if you drive the car like a doos then it will break, like holding the break and pressing the accelerator to make the wheels spin or to get a good launch is a good way to fark up the gear box, or reversing out of a parking fast and before the car has come to a stop popping it into drive will also fark the gearbox up, or hamering the car when its cold can also stuff it up because the gearbox is also cold and will also suffer under those conditions.

Just my opinion.

Anybody here, or know of someone, who knows how to check and possibly repair the adjusters on an E39, 2002 model, keeping in mind that the car has auto adjusters too?

When I try adjust the lights manually with the hex-screw adjusters on top, the lights lift and then drop back down again as if they can't hold their position.

I need this sorted out urgently, within the next week...

Please and thanks awesome Fanatics! :ty:

Daaamnnn Promo... That was a very nice step-by-step guide. Looks fun.
However :fencelook: Me and DIY, not great buddies  I tend to break things.

I want to see what guys out there would charge to do repairs for me (hopefully not 5k like they quoted you).

For interest's sake, would your DIY thingamajig work with the auto adjusters that move up and down when you switch ignition on?

Yes, that's the reason for the "credit card workaround" piece, so that there is enough flex for the auto adjusters to do their job
