the car will hold errors for 3 ish days with the bat disconnected

ask me how i know haha,

the terminals thing scares me,but makes sense now after having no bmw for a week just so the car electrics could die properly

Thank you Gert for the diagnostics once more, at dyno day this last Saturday :ty:

I seem to have a fuel starvation issue. Car is at the workshop today for a looksie. AutoData tells me that a common fault on these diesels is the fuel pressure sensor on the rail which may need cleaning due to corrosion build-up, or it might just be a little loose. Will update soon.

Stripped out the fuel pressure sensor after removing the intake manifold. The thing looks brand new. Putting it back for now, and making sure plug is fitted properly.

Also stripped out the regulator by the high pressure pump, and there seemed to have been a problem there which might have been the cause of my issues. That was rectified (some sort of minuscule actuator pin what what thing). It wasn't opening, but now it is.

Was busy putting the manifold back to finish up, and then I snapped a bolt :skit:

Now I need to muster up the energy to go and strip the damn thing off all over again.

Car still not performing properly and taking long to start now.

Going to get my old regulator back and see if it helps.

So I'm actually not too sure. The lpfp makes a noise sometimes when ignition is on, but supply to the filter is perfectly fine.

I'm lead to believe the vehicle will not start if the pre-supply pressure is less than 3.0 bar?

Wish I knew more about this stuff.

In my mind, the car will take long to start if there is air in the system, or if the pre-supply pressure is low. If I remember correctly the spec for the pre-supply is around 7Bar.


I remember my rail pressure was around the 300-340Bar mark when idling.

I think I need to bleed the fuel system to make sure no air is present.

Why can't diagnostics just tell you "listen poephol, there's a fault with this part. Replace it and you're good to go"...?
