Dyllan In the last pic it seems that your thermostat might have failed. If you've been driving for a while in that particular pic then it means its failed (open) and its not maintaining optimum temperature.

It's not a hard DIY either :) Thermostat should set one back around R700 incl the housing.

No no... :=):

I replaced the thermostat in December last year.

I had only been driving for around 10 minutes, on a highway.

My 530d also takes more than double the time to reach "normal operating temp" then the 740i, just a trip to the local Spar and the E38 is up to temp, the 530d would just barely be 1/2 way warmed for the same trip.

Yeah mine too... I get nearly all the way to Lanseria before it's up to temp... By that time there's no time for fun :(

I need new badges for my key fobs. It's the 11mm badge and BMW don't sell them alone. I ordered from eBay but my parcel was accidentally shipped off to the other side of the world, so I got refunded.

Also, I have a friend that needs two. Also 11mm.

Where can I get other than eBay as I can't find the metal ones on eBay from a top rated seller anymore? They only sell the plastic ones and I don't want those.

Okay, a shocking problem...

My front shocks make a weird noise when the front wheels hit a small ditch. In other words, going over a bump when the wheel is pushed upwards makes no noise. But when the wheel "falls" into a small ditch or after a bump, there's a noise.

It's not a creaking door type of noise, but more like a "whoop" noise. Dunno how to explain it. So I've decided it's time for a suspension makeover, and will probably do bushes too.

I'll contact Moranor for parts, but I need to find someone who can do all the work for me if I supply the parts.

Also, being the M-sport, I can't use standard E39 shocks and no one seems to have the stock M-sport ones. So, what do I use? And should I buy complete new control arms or just the upper and lower bushes?

No luck at GW? JHB CBD's one is quite good at sourcing stuff for me.

Firstly, the brand they want to offer me is Topran :thumbdo:

Secondly, they only do the one set of bushes and not the other. I want to replace now to last me another 200k km.

Hi, i had this predicament with my previous e39. it had msport suspension.

theres a place in capetown called gremeltech, also diesel electric, you can get the oem sachs shocks, same part, just the box isnt bmw branded. but its like 1/4 the price.

other option is koni sport shocks, yellows. im running them on my current e39, which is a 530d. previous car was 525i.

you wont need the h&r sport springs i have as you already have a bmw sport spring. issue i had with this current car is when i got it it had standard suspension.

I'm guessing Koni will be my best bet.

Will it affect ride height? I like the stance of my car, so don't want it higher, but also don't want it lower as I have enough trouble scraping a few places as it is...

hi, mostly, springs are what effect ride height, keep your oem springs, keep your ride height.

the koni shocks will have the same travel or perhaps a little less than the sachs oem. i think it'll match up.

oh and choose the shocks for "540i". the heaviest of e39's.
