Hi all

As the title suggests, I have a slight whining problem with my car. After the first morning start, whether I pull away or just softly press in the accelerator in park, at around 1000-1500 rpm there is a very loud whine that comes from under the bonnet somewhere. As soon as I pass that range of rpm the whine disappears and doesn't return until the following first-morning start.

Any ideas before going out and seeking professional (costly) help?

Thanks a mil guys

My uneducated guess is that it's the alternator :fencelook:

+1

possibly also one of the tensioner pulleys bearings, but more likely to be alternator bearings

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that it is the nut holding the steering wheel.

I'm sorry Chef, I just had to.

And on a more serious note, I hope you get it sorted soon.

+1! Also had the same noise, replaced tensioner pulley and it was gone. The old one's bearings were shot!! Also just had the noise on start-up in the mornings.

Hope you get it sorted:thumbs:

You have a female car. They always whine when you wake them up early in the morning.

Tensioner pulleys or slipping serpentine belt.

Tensioner pulleys are relatively inexpensive, but if not looked at can leave you stranded.

So more than likely either the tensioner pulley or alternator problem? :bangdesk::bangdesk::bangdesk:

Tensioner pulleys are more likely.

If I may just add... :fencelook:
The whine sounds like it's made from air :fencelook: Like lots of air being compressed through a small gap if I can put it that way
Just 2c :fencelook:

Could be that the belt is slipping and the actual tensioner needs replacement.

I remember some time ago my tensioner pulley was going, everytime I would start the car up there was an audible whine. I just said it's my supercharger warming up. :fencelook:
