Check Engine light not working

Hi

So I tried to the the stomp test yesterday and could not get it right.

I eventually had the stopwatch out to make sure I did the 5 stomps in 5 second ..... but still could not get it going.

I went back to google and apparently the light should show briefly when you turn the ignition key and mine did not.

Next I removed the cluster just to find that there is no light or even a fitting in that slot :RedNo:..... ok, remember I purchased the car a week ago and you can imagine what I'm thinking.

Anyway, I took the parking brake light and put it in the empty slot and still no go.

Is there anyway, other than to change the cluster, to maybe add a test light or test the wiring?

As far as i know the stomp test is for the US e34 cars only and our engine lights do not work.
My 1993 e34 525i engine light doesn't work either.

interesting...so how would i do the diagnostics?

Would need to have the car connected to software like INPA for diagnostics.
There is a 20 pin plug in the engine bay that is used to connect to the software and i believe the e34 cars need an ADS interface to work with INPA.
Carsoft is another one that works on the e34, can search Ebay for it.
