Well, I actually stumbled upon it when looking project ideas for the Raspberry Pi - in theory if you have the correct software protocols (and lots of time), you could emulate this using the Pi.

Will give it a few months - I'm sure someone will write the software for it. Keeping a keen eye out for it on the E46 forums. The hardware interface should be the easy part, as the Pi is essentially a stripped down PC.

this has been out for a loooooooooooong time now, my bro has it in his mps...after its conected u can still use steering wheel buttons....spoke abt the same device in an old thread

Pi sounds good, they're not too pricey either & they have many other uses if you sell the car.

Yep - there's a few commercial variants out including the Dension stuff.

Do you have the link to the old thread. I'm keen on building one using the Pi for the fun of it (even if it ends up costing more than buying one of the shelf) - however, just looking at the commercial versions to get some ideas.
