I need some advice. I suspect my catalytic converters are unhappy. For a while I smelled something akin to wet paint in the exhaust fumes which I think is fine, but today for the first time ever I got the unmistakable smell of sulfur as I was unloading the boot after driving the car.
I see there are other explanations for the smell related to fuel ratios etc but most likely candidate is cats.
I don't have any other symptoms yet (fuel use is normal for the 325i at about 9.5kpl, power seems normal, no engine light), so perhaps early days? Is there any way to be certain about this?
What I need advice on is what to do if it is indeed bad cats? No ways I'm replacing them. But if I delete them, do I just do the secondary ones or also those on the headers, which it seems will then require tuning shenanigans to fool the ECU?
Also, any idea what this may cost (assuming I do the delete and do what's required to not make my car sound like a tincan)?
Cheers!
