hmmmmm so the stealers say that the catalytic coverter is buggered and want to replace it with the whole airflow system

two questions is that necessary ?
and approxiamate cost just for the catalytic converter?

is decatting an option its my brother in laws car out of plan and he is trading it for a 2010 320d so wants to spend the minimum and have a car that runs normally in order to get the required trade in

Motorplan? Suuuure, do it. Dunno how they can say that a can is done so soon though.

After MP? Decat, no question.

Most reputable exhaust shops should be able to do the decat for you.

straight pipe about R350..

adding a regular exhaust box should be about R150.

So total should be approximately R500...

Haai everyone,

I recently bought a 2003 E46 Facelift 330D in Joburg sitting with 136 130km on the clock, I took this monster all the way to Mthatha without any issues.

Now my concern is that I saw a particular thread on Bimmerforums about Catalytic converters that at around this mileage that I am sitting with its best to remove it to protect the turbo. Now I am not a mechanic but I would like to hear from someone who did this or someone who knows these things that what implications this will have on the engine performance and fuel mixture ratios.

Please help.

Thanks.

I know Stiaan had his E90 320d done at iirc Powerflow and they charged something like R1800 to replace the cat with a down pipe. On my E90 330d they wanted R2300. That was about a year ago.

No negative issues. did the same on my facelift E46 330d better fuel consumption earlier spool and slight increase in power and lower engine bay temps, no need to remap or anything as the cars ecu will adapt for the slightly better airflow, the E46 330d has no lambda sensors in the downpipe either. the cat sits on the downpipe itself so rather go to powerflow or Xflow and get a nice new downpipe made. Approximate cost is around R2500 to R3500 but well worth it.
