Use dedicated automotive leather care products for best results.

+1

Also depends on the leather type. I think Nappa leather is the closest to real leather, followed by Montana leather and then there's the regular leather which is more like a plastic/vinyl mixture made to look like leather.

Ok so i tried the Dove thing and here are the results!

Before Cleaning with Dove :

After cleaning with Dove :

After conditioning with Shield Leather Cream Care :

My Conclusion :

Cleaning with Dove is not what i expected as i expected it to have very good stain removing ability but nevertheless it worked well as a leather wash. I think because its a "gentle" soap, it didnt have that stubben stain removal ability but it did clean well.

I think i would have been fully satisfied had I steam cleaned and washed with the Dove thereafter.

Method :

I kept the microfibre cloth more damp then wet as to not soak the seat and kept the cloth at a warm temperature.

I used more of the foam from the Dove and wiped gently in a circular motion gradually increasing the aggresiveness and pressure (but not too much)

I did section by section starting from the headrest.

I kept a separate micro fibre cloth in clean water and used it to wipe off the soap as soon as i was done washing/wiping the seat.

It costed me about 3 and 1/2 hours work, R32 for the Shield conditioner and R7 for the Dove Bar.

Not bad right??

Still need to add my pictures, but finished my seats this weekend for the e36 as well, and they are stunning.
Seats were dirty, and driver seat torn and looking really bad. So cleaned my seats and nurished them. Now the driver seats needed fixing, and was not going to re-do whole car. Here is what I did:
- drive to BEMOWS and bought a e36 grey leather back seat R100
- got a loan front e36 seat
- gave my seat to the person that does my upholstry: Andre
- he re-did the seat in original BMW leather from the spare back seat
- looks amazing!

Well the 1st time I tried cleaning my e36 titan grey seats, I bought a bottle of multi purpose/carpet cleaner and a tub of no name brand leather cream.

I mixed the multi purpose cleaner with warm water and used a soft cloth to clean the seats, after 5min the leather felt sticky :thumbdo: After cleaning all the seats, I used leather cream which made the seats soft but after a week, the seats started looking very dirty :bangdesk: seems like it absorbed all the dust :yuck:

Gona try another product for leather cleaner & cream.

Oh bugger, how powerful was that multi purpose cleaner? Sounds like you have gone through the coating if its started to get sticky.

Buy a dedicated leather cleaner and a leather conditioner. (with a few microfibre towels and a soft bristle brush)

Follow the instructions on the bottle and voila!

Dove soap on your seats... really?
Next you'll be using nugget shoe polish on your black trim?

No "NOT" Ammonia :yikes: I've seen a guy use that on his e36 seats and today he literally doesn't have seats  made the leather brittle and yellow in colour :uhoh:

The correct term for this multi purpose I used is called carpet shampoo, makes alot of foam, but I won't use it again.... next time use just plain water :thinker:
