friend of mine had the same problem with his motor bike at swartkops race track when he wrote it off coming into the straight in front of the pits.

was track day but the thing with insurance,is it is a race track,and is listed like that as a bussiness,track=racing.finished.

doesnt matter if you were doing 20km or 150 km.

Carbon needs to focus on what to do with the car now...fighting the insurance has cost him 6 - 9 months already...

1. If he is going to keep it then a detailed repair sheet has to be drawn up, and get at least two quotes

2. Then to consider how to raise the repair cost.

But the biggest consideration is the following: If the car had suspension damage, and i dont mean rims, shocks and springs...but damage to the suspension that takes away your confidence because you know of "that" damage...then the decision MUST be to sell the car, even if he gets a R100 000 for it. Start over financially is better that driving a car that has taken away your driving confidence.

Secondly, he has to consider the outstanding balance to the bank...now lets say conservatively that is R200 000. I would then pay the R100 000 to the bank and buy a brand new vehicle that "includes" the outstanding capital balance of R100 000. But then he needs to buy "up" and not down to make that additional R100 quid worth while. This is a far better option that buying "down' and still owing the bank R100 000 plus interest. A careful finance structuring on this is not rocket science.

Carbon can be in a brand new 135 DTC sooner than later, if he put his mind to it..:thumbs::thumbs:

out of curiosity,how much would a shell from ascrap yard be?then maybe swop over all the good stuff from your car to the shell

Ouch!! Only saw this now. All of the insurance hassles could've been avoided if you had told them it happened on the street. There is no insurance company that will pay for race track damages that is why number plates are removed/blanked off in case guys take pictures. Sorry about your terrible loss though. I hope this NEVER happens to me.

I was gonna make up a story about the accident, but that night the pics of the accident were already on forums and Facebook. My car is very easy to identify that its mine with numberplates off. So I couldnt take a chance

Thinking about this, The shell swap is not the best idea actually....

Reasons are as follow.

Firstly to find a shell, you need to find an undamaged car, so your looking for a 118 or 116 for cheap enough... that may be possible.

But now if you do a full transpant of engine, motor, harness ect ect,your going to spend more in labour to do it properly.

Then you have the problem as well of a change in chassis number, which will be a ball ache, followed by a perm entry on the cars history in the form of a police clearance, this essentially then becomes a code 3.... (Cois, help me out here on the code 3 issue)

However, what your looking for is an accident damaged vehicle, where you can purchase the entire side from. You will get away with about 25k in parts, maybe a bit more. Lets be silly and say 50k (double my parts car estimate) far less then a second hand 116 that will require police clearance.

I found one yesterday that would have been perfect, except its an E87, 2 door with a roof. I could have picked up the left hand side of that car for 15k without a door and bonnet, but that included a dome.
