What year is the car, and how much do you owe on it.. This is going to cost you oodles to fix.

I would part it depending on the value.. THe damage looks like its only cosmetic, but thats A/C pillar, roof, door, any airbags pop ? perhaps sunroof, bumpers, tailgate...

Give me a ring if ya need some advice...

Its a 2008 (Jan) with 59000km's now. I still owe R122k on it. The value of the car is R250k (Up until the accident). When new it was valued R355k.

I wanna part from it, but my old man said NO, I must fix it :(
It is only cosmetic damage. Mechanical is all fine. No airbags popped.

I will contact you on the BBM group if I need advice, thx.

Did the curtain airbags deploy? I'd be surprised if not...

I didn't know that they allow BMW track days... Which insurer you with?

The airbags didnt pop. The only interior damage is the left airvent on the dash cos of the A pillar. And all the shattered glass lying all over from the windscreen, passenger window and back window. The left side rear window is perfect, not a crack.

BMW track days are in JHB. In CT its any street car track days.

With BMW Finance Insurance.

Consider parting with it instead of fixing as suggested by ZL.

Its dreadful that the insurer is not paying. I assume you are with bmw insure? Sorry buddy, its bad.

I wanna part from it. My old man said I must get it fixed :( Its BMW Insurance.

I might go look at a 130i Le Mans blue with black leather (like my previous 130i) at Donford tomorrow. Its a 2006 with 66000km's, the Motorplan expires in April. Its going for R235k. Its also on Gumtree.

I will keep you guys up to date at whats happening. Gonna get it towed to storage somewhere and get different quotes and then decide from there.
I wanna scrap it. I've taken out the Performance steering wheel, Carbon diffuser (only has a minor scratch, no cracks) and the sound system. Oh, and the badges and side sills for souvenirs.

Thats what I wanna do. But the "old man" reckons I must fix Carbon and keep her as my everyday car.

I’m looking for offers for my car as is. Think gonna get rid of it instead of fixing it. The cheapest quote, so far, to repair it is R160k with 2nd hand parts. Its not worth it.

Please PM me a price offer.

Also gonna sell the Performance steering wheel, 1 Carbon mirror cover (drivers side) and the Carbon diffuser. The diffuser has 1 minor scratch. You cant see it unless you have a very close up look.

what needs to be fixed? the A piller and the fold in the roof above the windscreen look a bit worrying to me... but if they easy to fix and the chassis in not bent it would make an awesome track project...

Its only body work that needs to be repaired. Go read this new thread: http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=13320

It is a good project for a track car. If I had the spare cash I would keep it and make it a track car. I need to get another everyday car so gonna spend the money rather on buying another BMW instead of going back to a Corsa or a CitiGolf

The case (took about 9 months) with the insurance and lawyers was rejected yesterday. The insurance's excuse is that the track day would fall under "racing". They wont pay out. :argh:

I gotta repair/replace Carbon at my cost.

I probably going to be an ass here, but I could have told that this would probably be the outcome 9 months ago.
As far as I know you need to let your insurance company know before you are planning to track your car and then you will have to pay a premium for that specific day, usually a lot, more risk more money.
Same way motorplan does not like you tracking your car.

I was going to say pretty much the same thing. All insurance companies clearly state that a car that is being used on a track or for racing is NOT covered.

Yep insurance will always try to get out, but it is a normal stipulation to exclude all track action. They probably also would have rejected on treadwear. I remember a car once reversed into me while I was parked.
The assessor still came to check my tires like it had anything to do with my parked car being bumped.

Not cool :nonono:

It is critical that your know what your insurers' stance on track days is, and you can get very competitive rates from some companies out there.

A large portion of the 4x4 and overlanding fraternity use tuffstuff for their insurance. They do all "adventure" type activities. Get the right insurance upfront - it's definitely worth the extra premium because accidents do happen! BMW's = high performance machines with excellent handling, so when you leave the track, it's gonna be a big one!

All the best sorting out the car dude.

I had to swop out my front bumper after hitting a Steenbok. The assesor even checked my SPARE tyre's tread...

You guys are right. But in my policy it states the following:

If the vehicle is involved in either rallies, non-marshaled, timed or racing events, there is no cover.
Open track days at Killarney is neither of the above. There are marshals, they not timing you, its not a rally and you not racing. Killarney did a letter for the insurance stating this.

I've taken Carbon on the track monthly, for almost 3 years. The Corsa was on for about 5 years. I've never had an accident on there until now

So what was thier reason for not paying out?
