car sounds like diesel

Hi all. My car starts fine and idles fine but when I ref my car past 1500 rmp it sounds like a diesel car even if revs drops back to normal the sound stays. If I switch car off again and start it idles fine again please help. I think it's valvetronic related

If the car is a 2002 e46 318ti, it probably has the N42 engine.

What is the mileage of this car?
Has the chain tensioner ever been replaced? <-- If not, there is a chance the chain is running against the plastic around it, and soon the chain will start jumping over the teeth and cause you an expensive rebuild. Typical story on the N42 engines.

There is obviously a chance that it is something else.

I changed the tensioner with upgrade one and my oil light is not on. If I start the car it idles fine no diesel sound only if I ref the car past 1500refs
