So here we go :=):

I bought this car from my Dad at a ridiculous price just over 3 years ago , her mileage being about 289k back then. I was a bit skeptical about the mileage, but the condition of the vehicle sold it straight away.

She was in the family so it wasn't like I didn't know what I was buying. Heck, we loaded the trunk to the brim, hooked the boat and filled the car with all 5 of us and go to the dam in this E39! She had NO PROBLEM hauling this load!

Other weekends we would hook the quads and go for it too!

We've even taken a trip to KZN with her (me and my Dad) just to enjoy the car :worshippy:

I must admit that my Father is indeed a meticulous owner himself, so I knew she was well looked after!

So I already had someone interested in my E36 318i I was driving back then, sold her and the very next day collected my E39!! :)

Ofcourse I could not get one minute of sleep that evening. This was also my very 1st 6 cylinder so heck I REALLY couldn't wait :)

I've always loved how this car looks, and I decided to keep her just the way she is!

So here she is then :

She is a 2000 E39 528i Steptronic
M52TU28 Engine
A5S 325Z (Auto) or more commonly known as the ZF Gearbox
Glacier Green Metallic
Glass Sunroof
PDC
Electric Seats
Light Grey Interior

She is currently standing on 419 xxx km's (yes you read that right :) )

Original gearbox, block, head etc!

Unfortunately, genetics allow for some of the genes to be inherited, so I've inherited my Father's OCD :bangdesk:

Since I've had her I've done so much preventative maintenance, I would never get a cent back if I had to sell her and I won't even dare try and start a list here , but most recently as you might have seen, Peter has done the Vanos + Rattle repair for me.

This is the 1st time the valve cover has been opened since it's left the factory in July 2000

Peter also basically rebuilt the ENTIRE cooling system at the same time, replacing every single water hose on the motor.

This car absolutely LOVES the open road and just racks up mileage like she can't get enough.

I ONLY use OEM parts and I am a strong believer although it is costly, it is one of the main contributing reasons I am able to achieve the mileage on the vehicle.

I can honestly say, she still does not skip a beat

Thx for the nominations guys and good luck to all the nominees :)

I hereby nominate 2 X E39's as well as these cars are simply timeless

I first really came to notice the E39 when I was around 13 years old, if not a bit older. I lived in Mossel Bay at the time and my neighbour, who had only built his house next door to ours after we moved down there from Joburg, had a 1997 E39 540i steptronic. Maroon in colour, with cream interior. It had aftermarket rims on, which didn't bother me as the car was the best thing I had ever seen in my life at the time, and the rims looked good on her. I wanted to do nothing more but stare at this car all day long. We lived on a steep uphill and so I would often get to hear that V8 rumble pull up the road with my neighbour on his way to work.

I was lucky enough to catch a lift with him at times and sat in awe as he put his foot down, the quiet engine then cruising from 80 km/h, now suddenly roaring into life and sprinting down an empty road, reaching 250 km/h. It felt like I was in a super comfortable jet. The scenery a blur.

I couldn't get enough of the speed, the acceleration, the comfort, and the sheer beauty of the car.

That's when I decided...

I had to have one.

The day I first took her for a drive.

At the time I bought her, I had a Jetta mk3 CLI 2.0 8v. I had been looking around and climbing into E39's for a few months. I never really had the intention of buying one just yet, especially not a V8. The 2.0 liter Jetta was heavy enough on fuel, but I went with a friend, Wayne, from dealer to dealer, still in awe of the E39's standing around. Every time I got into one, I thought to myself "I have to have one".

Wayne and I would spend hours looking around on the web at cars for sale, to pass time and what not. He then stumbled upon an advert placed by Fourbuy Wholesale, a Land Rover specialist in Fourways. It was for an E39 530d M-sport, traded in buy a man who wanted an SUV. He said we should go look at it. I thought "ag okay, why not. Maybe I can score a drive".

When I went to view her, the dealer had only just opened that day after the festive season close. The salesman and owner, the only guy who works there apart from staff who wash cars and do stock organising etc, was a bit busy and so he gave me the keys and told me to take it for a spin. Wayne was with me, so we left my car there and off we went. Man oh man. I had to have it. I didn't want to buy a car then, but THIS ONE I had to have. The interior was spotless, apart from slight age related wear. No broken bits. No heavy stains. Anthracite lining. Black leather. Wood grain trim. Sport steering...

This car had everything I wanted that my Jetta couldn't offer; remote access, electric windows, sunroof, leather interior, diesel consumption, etc etc etc.

I wanted it. With no intention of actually buying it, I bought it. I was out of my mind. My Jetta I bought myself but from family friends. This BMW, however, was my first ever buy from a dealer. My first proper financed vehicle. I didn't know what I was doing.

I thought if I really do want one of these, it might as well be the diesel as the fuel consumption of the V8 would kill me, even though I really wanted the 540i. And so it was mine. I bought myself the car I had been wanting for around a decade.

Her first trip down to Mossel Bay

I kept the mods to a minimum. Apart from BMWFanatics stickers and semi-smoked tail lights, I have done no visual mods to this car. Rims are still original.

Mechanically, the only mods I have done are the swirl flaps (they needed to come out) and the EGR block-off along with the vacuum pipe story.

And then... A software remap which gave me plenty more power and much better fuel consumption.

Sometimes I cannot believe that I actually own an E39, even after a year of ownership. This car is really special to me and I hope that I may never have to sell it. Most other youngsters my age all want small, fast hatchbacks such as GTI's and ST's. Me? I wanted a big BMW. Comfort and luxury combined with power.

I don't care how fast I get from A to B. I want to enjoy the drive. And in my E39, I couldn't enjoy it more.

Thanks
