Car hesitates on take off after driving for a while

Hi,

I have an 320i E90 which drives fine when the engine is cold, but after driving for a while it will hesitate on takeoff. I would need to hold it at half clutch for 2 - 3 seconds and wait for the rev to go up then it moves. There is also a knocking sound that will come when the engine is hot.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The clutch could be on its way out

Thanks for the reply Akash. I had the clutch plate replaced a few months ago. Could it be something else that you can think of. Because of some bad experience I prefer to take a car to a mechanic at least having a clue what the problem might be and how much it will cost. I have been cheated out of thousands of rands

My best guess would be clutch related issue.

Best would be to get the car to a reliable mechanic.

Or maybe have the codes looked at that could point you to the problem

Few things you can check:
(1) DME relay;
(2) MAF Sensor;
(3) Ignition coils.

Im not sure that your problem is clutch related.

Best would actually be to have the codes read. If it is a sensor/relay/coil issue it should show immediately.

If its a hardware issue you should be able to find out what it is by way of elimination.

Sorry for the late response. Was waiting for my OBD2 scanner to be delivered so I can read the codes.

These are the codes I get.

One of your camshaft sensors (either inlet or exhaust [or even both]) is on its way out

So yesterday i tried taking out the Camshaft VANOS Solenoid so i can clean them and see if that wouldnt make a difference. They were both stuck in the hole. So i tried to force the one out and the head broke.

So i got a replacement but now they are still stuck in the hole. Is there a trick to getting them out?
