Don't have a convertible, but the stories remind me about the guys at Harties on the way to the dam wall. The one morning they chucked stuff through my sunroof and expected me to then pay for it.

Yes I know this feeling. And every single one of those vendors are named "Robert but not Mugabe" and they all have their birthdays on the day you're there and so they'd like to make you a sale as a gift to themselves.

I admire the bravery (stupidity) of convertible owners who park their cars with the roof open. I would never consider that anywhere.

I saw a new(ish) SL Merc parked with the roof open at a beach last year.
Forget about the security risk; spray from the nearby crashing waves covered the car, interior and all.
There should be an institution (like the SPCA for animals) where you can report cruelty to cars.

:crazylaugh: I wish there was!

This is no lie, I once went pass there in a rental, plane Jane 1300 corolla, and the guy said its his favorite car. He said its like a Fortuner only smaller.

i find it ridiculous that we just accept the way we live, or rather let certain things affect our lives.

one can no longer be relaxed, and not have to think or worry when at a main intersection any more. i find it crazy that its actually gotten to the point where if im with my girlfriend or family i take another route to avoid the window washers. my mom who lives in Mozambique still doesn't understand how we live and got used to it.

the east gate intersection by MacDonalds (east rand, joburg) has gotten really bad.

it would have made such a difference if they were polite. it doesn't take that much. offer your service and a smile, and people would have had a totally different attitude towards you.

Which one?
SPCA - Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Automobiles
SPCC - Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Cars

They live in an aggressive " eat or be eaten " society, they only respond to aggression.

I had a white dude at a robot once, i gave him a R10 note, he said " huh is that all? dont be greedy" I too work 12 hours a day for the things i have.

As for the window washers, ill will actively tell them to F#ck right off.

Car guards honestly are more annoying than window washers. It's also very rarely that I will have cash on me, I don't even carry a wallet just a card holder so have nothing to give them. I remember when the car guards first started out they would ask if you needed your car looked after, though now it seems they automatically asume. As for window washers, last time I stopped I opened my window and told the guy I have no cash and he accepted and thanked me for telling him. So I guess it depends on the person and how they are treated. I'm generally quick to anger, but recently I have tried to keep that side of myself under wraps. Sometimes I can't manage but I'm hoping that going forward I will get better at dealing with my own issues an don't taking it out on others.

I have a similar experience. I only disagree with the part where it depends on how they are treated. They all get treated like decent human beings but how they choose to respond to me not giving them what they want differs. I think it depends on who you find on the day at that intersection or mall. I drove with my roof off for many years with minimal trouble. Yes it can get annoying but I never felt unsafe. You can have a chat with the vendors, washers etc and it was a generally positive experience for me. I had one incident where a washer at Grayston reached into my car but fortunately it was as I drove off and nothing really happened to myself or my car. Even now, there are still many guys who DO take no for an answer or choose to have a small chat (still aware of my surroundings). However the change I'm talking about is that many go from "oh please take pity on me and give me money" to "F-you, I'll kill you. <show fist, make gun with hand, bang on window etc>" regardless of what you do or say. These are simply criminals in disguise.

Try driving around in a convertible with the roof down these days in the bigger cities. You are harassed endlessly at every traffic light.
Just end up putting the roof up for some peace and safety.

It used to be fine but nowadays it is constant harassment whether you have a car with a roof or not.

Can't help but notice you're all from Gauteng :)

I've seen the same in Durban in a slightly funnier way. I'm Indian and if there is an Indian beggar they seem to be even more aggressive and start telling me I've forgotten where I've come from LOL :hammerhead:

Good point there and now that I think about it opening the window to chat with the windows washers is probably not the best idea either.
