Considering that the Focus ST can be had for around R300k with the ST1 pack the other's prices are quite ridiculous to be honest.

At those prices, although the M135i has the power, my wallet firlmy tells me the ST will be a better bang for buck choice.

Would rather be seen in an ugly BMW than a hideous Ford

The Ford offers best bang for buck by far though.

taking the ST over the M135i is probably like saying you would take the 2013 GTR over the Porsche 911 Turbo S PDK

you get what you pay for.

Personally don't think they should be mentioned in the same sentence.

No surprise here that the 135i wins in this group, it has an extra 2 cylinders, more cc's, and costs a boatload more, yes you get what you pay for but to drag a 6 cylinder turbo vs a bunch of 4 cylinder turbos... obviously it's going to win.

I don't see it has a victory sorry guys, it was destined to win as it sits in another league.

I know these cars weren't in the test but to make things even, a better match up would have been RS3, maybe a Scoobie and more recently the A45 AMG(I know not launched yet at the time CAR Mag did the test)? I'm just thumbsucking off the top of my head now but those 3 would be much more similarly matched and priced to the 135 to at least give it a fair run for it's money rather than cars in a lower price bracket with smaller engines...

Although the BMW was more powerful and had 2 more cylinders, I did not expect it to post such quick times:praise:

The BMW 125i would have been the one to include. It's closer in price (R355k in 3 door manual guise) and performance (160kw/310 NM, 0-100 in 6.4s or 6.2s with the auto box).

On paper it looks like it will hold it's own against the GTI and ST.
