what type of oil is leaking? I'm assuming that the smoke was the oil burning on the branch. Power steering perhaps?

Hey guys, I am in a situation now. Just got a call back from the Workshop manager at Auto elegance, the Turbo is :argh:
Now, this is where I stand, I need to replace the turbo, but my warranty only covers me R4500. So I want to purchase a new turbo, do I get it from BMW or do I get from someone else?
Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Seeing that you are out of plan, why not looking at upgrading while you're at it? Might as well gain from this loss.

Sorry to hear, but better to know what is wrong, although costly, not something more "skin-deep" if that makes sense.

I'm no turbo boffin but won't a bigger turbo be an option?

That's something I am looking at. Just hope the wife don't spend too much on her trip to France this week. Well, waiting for official quote and work from there.

Will keep you guys posted.
thanks everyone.

R18 000, somebody paying for there holiday as well....
R13850 for turbo only...........wtf............
:argh:

Fukkit - is that for stock?

Yeah, sourced 1 by myself and got quoted 7k, waiting on them to say its ok to supply my own, then sending it there.

damn that's pricey. Happened to my neighbor's Vito, Merc wanted to charge him into submission, so he sourced one himself, they fitted it, just charged labor.

That's expensive, but the sort of expected price that one would pay from the agents. 7k is a lot more sensible for a new unit. Of course there are placing that can often repair or recondition a turbo, but 7k for a new one with some sort of warranty is the safer option I would think...

Well repairing was not an option as the turbo ended up in pieces. Even the hosing broke.
Gave the go ahead, expected car to be done by Friday
