can I put 285 / 20" rims and Tyres on my M3 E46?

Got a stupid question but I'm looking at getting a set of 20 inch M6 mags for my E46 M3 but I'm not sure if the 285 width will fit in the wheel arches,

What is the offet and width, that's 95% what matters

In my mind if that is fine, the 285 will be ok. It's only 3cm wider than stock. A scientific eyeball finger spread makes 3cm seem insignificant

Yes it wil fit provided the offset is correct. 285 30 20 would fit a 46

I'm letting Dave from PSI Development in Durban use my baby to develop a kit for the M's, we going with a Rotax charger,

285/30/20 at the back and 255/30/20 in front

My mate the m6 wheel on his e46. I think u will need to machine the wheel. Ridwaan from wheelnutz.com did the work for him
