Can I borrow someones VIN please

Greetings,

Purchased an 3.0 intake camshaft for my 2.8TU.

It arrived and when we inspected it at the dealer it was damaged. Now BMW want a VIN number to return it against for some German reason.

Can I borrow a 3.0 Z vin number from someone please?

Yes it does sound dumb. Don't know why they want it. Something to do with having shipped a dud in the first place. I am in the habit of checking parts now before!leaving the dealership and in this case asked the workshop manager to verify the damage. Cam looked like it had been dropped.

Please a vin someone.

Sorry for the dumb question, but how did you manage to get the dealership to order a camshaft without giving them a VIN in the first place? Surely they can just use the number on the delivery documents to return the damaged part

This has been resolved now. Thanks for the input. For some reason they did not need a VIN to order it but there seems to be a stricter process around returning a damaged part.

Once they understood that I am building an engine the VIN requirement went away.
