can a leaking exhaust effect your idle?

hi guys

a few months ago i posted a topic about changing the O2 sensor on the car.
anyway that was what the mechanic told me after diagnosis.
before laying 4K on a new sensor i checked with other mac's and most of them say it could be that a breather pipe has a crack and is sucking in air therefore when the guys did the diagnostics they picked up the O2 sensor (which does make sense)

but what i have noticed is that my exhaust sounds like it has a leak but i cant seemed to find where it is leaking.... anyway if my exhaust has a leak could that cause my O2 sensor to receive incorrect readings and can it cause my idle to sit at 500 rpm?

yes and yes...have your exhaust checked from start to finish...the guys at speedy exhaust can check with pipe and something gadget they use...

An exhaust leak can also affect the performance of your cabby...stutter..."misfire and blaring" sounds etc...etc

yep...a leaking exhaust or faulty O2 sensor can cause similar problems as a faulty cam/crankshaft sensor....rough idle, cutting out, hard to start etc..etc..

You'd need a remap too or else it'll go to a default map and overfuel a lot....

will be cheaper to decat if yur cat is about to go...but i don't know the power gains on a NA car...but if you can repair the cat if not too expensive; i would say do so...it will also keep those pesky error codes away if you do not have a universal 02 sensor etc...:dunno:

is it use full to "recat" once your cats are gone bad? and whats the pricing on that?

don't bother-you are in a country where emmissions are not a problem so if I were you I would go for a decat

According to primaforce, the 318 doesn't need CAT foolers? Then what could be causing my engine light to keep coming on? I keep taking it to get cleared and the error is 'Catalytic converter conversion'. Taking it today or tomorrow but this is becoming a headache now, dont know what to do :dunno:
