Calling 540/6 drivers

Hi All,

I need a huge favour.

I am looking for about 1 or 2 (more will be better) Vin and options code from a 540/6

These can be found on a little sticker inside the fuse box on the E34 in the engine bay. (VN,GM,SA)

I want to recode my car since the manual swap, and would greatly appreciate some variations to figure out which digit is the manual vin no.

Also, please send me the details as a PM and not in open forum for obvious reasons, and I promise to keep the details purely to myself.

I am also going to try and unplug the transmission computer, but I think a recode may be in order.

Thanks and Regards

Leonard

Rick,

Thats the confuzzling thing, no it does not.

I spent a lot of time on another forum reading about fischers responses to that one, and its pretty clear that on the E36 its not a problem, on the E34 I do not have that issue..

Neither does anthony's car...

Clutchy's car the recode sorted it out, but I see that they manufacture a differant chip for the manual car in reference to that other one that you have...

I am busy doing research on this one.

I did unplug the trans computer this evening, but it made no diff to the transprog error. The only reason why I want to do this is I want my cluster to be error free.

lol, new vehicle order, recode, reprogram, and quite abit of re-wiring..
but then again, lol, everyone told me it was impossible and I shouldn't do it. but now it works and is wired EXACTly like a M540i6

The transprog error I think is being produced by the DME expecting CAN bus comms with the EGS for torque reduction/timing modification etc when the car is put into drive and during gear changes. Vaguely remember the 540i/6 has a clutch depressed/released switch that signals something to the ECU.

mmmm... The only person I know of that has the brains to answer this one is Ken Fister from Bimmerboard, but he has dissapeared, the other person is also on Bimmerboard, his name is Gert AKA Rv8flyboy, look him up, interesting dude that has managed to hack the E32/34 computer systems comms process to pieces, and will definitly give you the right answer, man knows his stuff. You can PM me if you want his email addy, I'm sure he won't mind.

Transprog..... Err change the coding plug on the back of the cluster (This is where the hard (unchangeable) coding is stored. I opened one once, some kind of write once PROM chip when I looked up the datasheet. Hack the one open in the spare cluster I gave you.
