Buying my first F30

Good evening.

I am currently interested in buying a used f30.

Can you guys help me with some questions??

I am currently looking at the 320d for it's amazing fuel economy, and the power that comes with it.

Are there any other models that I should be looking at like the 330d, 320i or 328i??

I am going to buy one not older than 2016, and that has a bit to go under standard warranty.

Is it a good choice to get the extended warranty??

Lastly, is it recommended to buy from BMW approved used cars.

My budget is R380 000

Thank you for helping me out

Post 2015 is the LCI, so the petrol engines are no longer the troublesome N20 type. The 330i offers pretty good value in the preowned market, if you're more inclined to petrol power. I would definitely say 320d or 330d, depending on what power you're looking for and the cars you're coming from. These cars have proven reliability at higher mileage if you're planning to keep the car for a while.

BMW approved would be perfectly fine and since you're looking at 2016, they should still have a balance of factory motorplan/warranty.

B48/58 have a fueling problem, prone to cylinder failures

Diesel it is....:fencelook:

@S1NGH 911, didn't realize that the B series petrol engines had issues.. would be good if you could share any more information from your side. Always liked the idea of a M140i or 340i, but now...

That budget gets you close to a decent 330d, which in my biased opinion offered the best balance of power and consumption, whilst arguably being the most reliable model.

My suggestion would be to go test drive the cars and see what appeals to your driving style as well.

Thanks so much you guys.

I am a bit of a grandpa driver, if I must say so myself. Never speeding, but that extra power the 330d is really looking me straight in the eye.

As far as I know the 320d changed their engines from the n47 to the b47, while the 330d stayed with the n57.

I am looking for something that is the most reliable, has good fuel consumption, and also that has that extra punch I am looking for.

I used to own a W202 C200, so any of these models will give me a much better ride experience.

I traded in my 2017 320d M Sport with 33,000km for R360k. The dealer is selling it now for R419k (not bad, if you add 15% vat and their mark up).

My advice would be to find a good private deal, still on plan and low mileage.

For that money you can drive off in a 330d. Like the guys have mentioned its the best balance between power and economy.

Mine is on 136000km and drives beautifully with no issues. I took out a 2 year extended warranty which ends in a few months and Ive never used it. In hindsight I should have just kept the money aside in case something needed attention.

In the past year more than 30 have broke in the country, some stock, some modded, all boiled down to the fueling problem.

B58TU is said to be free of this issue

I have decided to go for the 320D.

The price suits me, the power and economy is great.

Thank you all for the advice and input.

This is a great community

I do need advice on that.

Does anyone know all the differences between the lines??

I have looked online, but can't find all the details.

Also, is there a a sport model that has normal seats

Thank you for that link.

I had a look now.

I love the M-Sport, but the Sport seats dont work for me, so it looks like the Sportline is the best for me.

Do you guys have any advice on where to buy, and also if I buy from someone, is it recommended to take it to BMW to have a look at the car ??

If the car is still on Motorplan, you will need a BMW dealer to perform a quality check on the car before the Motorplan can be transferred to you. This has a small cost implication as well - a few thousand, I think. So, if you are buying privately (or from a non BMW dealer), this will definitely need to be done.
