Buying first BMW (E90)

Hi everyone,

I am currently in the market for a new "used" car.

I am considering an LCI 320D Auto, I also have an LCI 335i in my crosshairs.

If I cant get the 335i, Im going to go for the 320D/330D (If I can find one)

Are there any gripes that I have to look out for with the E90's?

As far as I know nothing majort accross the board, apart from some issues with certain models.
I know (only from what I've seen on the forum) that the 335i had some small issues mechanically, especially on the N54 model. Wastegate rattle comes to mind and some others that I can't recall now.

The diesels are pretty bulletproof apart from possible turbo and/or injector issues on older/higher mileage models. With the right care and maintenance these should last many, many miles without issues.

On the E90s accross the board I know that faulty door actuators is a common issue. Dead pixels on the radio screen is also quite common.

All and all E90s are great cars:coolShake:

If you are looking at a 335, I wouldn't even consider the 320d, not a hater, I've had a 120d, awesome machine, light on fuel but the power was just not enough. I upgraded to a 330d, best move ever, need more power again, but this time modifying the 330d is my next move. Absolutely in love with my car.

Check full history, mileage dependent, there will be maintenance, all of the what to look out for has been discussed at length, search the forum, and happy shopping :rollsmile:

I tend to agree that among those car OP mentioned the 320d may not cut it. 335i and 330d are far better performing and stronger vehicles and once you have driven them a 320d just won't do.

Just my 2c.

Do you want fuel consumption or performance ? 320d is about economy .

This. 320d if u need looking for a balanced all rounder.

335i or 330d if you want something with more oomph!

This. My 330d is a great all rounder, 7-8L/100kms serves me just fine town driving.

Difference between the two less the smile factor brings the 330d on top. OP, test drive all three extensively. They are all great cars, just the 330d is best :rollsmile:

You guys have made some very valid arguments.
Economy would be nice but I want that kick more. I will be doing some back to back testing but can't really find any 330D's that are as in good a condition as the 320D and 335i.

My initial choice was a 330D but you don't see many around. Will keep hunting and driving and see which suits my driving style.
