Hey all,

My wife has decided she really wants a Mini
We are looking at getting a 2007-9 Cooper S Turbo.

Is there anything I should look out for?
What seems to give the most problems?

Any other info would be great please

lots of issues

ecu
knock sensor
turbo
something to do with the cam chain swell

they are problomatic

but many are also highly reliable so all of the above could just be either a certain batch of cars or just reliable unlucky owners

check history with bmw before you purchase

goodluck

ps black on black on black jcw is my fav or red on black on black jcw

:RedNo:

Had a Red 2007 Cooper S, bought it new and got rid of it at 79 000 km. Went through all those listed faults plus HPFP defects. HPFP four times in a month.

I still like them, want one, but fear that will end up with a lemon.

You want to look at a 2010 up with the revised N18 engine.
They "fixed" most of the common issues that the older models had and are more reliable.

But depends how it was driven. maintained etc., as said, there are those who have no/minimal issues with their ownership.

I will stress on this one. Mine was delivered in April 2010, brand new. R 57 JCW (roadster). Being a mini fanatic at the time I was very excited to have been able to afford to tick all options on the top of the range model (recaro seats, navigation, HK etc). My issues were beyond the engine. Workmanship was heartbreakingly poor, from squeeking doors, to rattling speakers. The straw that broke the camels back was getting stuck 3 times in 1 month in a car which had all of 9 thousand kms on the clock. The 3rd time the car was with MINI for 3 weeks to repair whatever the issue was. I had to fight for a courtesy car. How it was driven wasn't the problem, it wasn't my first or last car. It also wasn't my first mini. Least reliable car I have ever had. I replaced it with an older higher mileage BMW at less than half the price and I'm happier. It completely put me off spending money on brand new cars.

Jcw drop - The Jcw models (all of them) only got the revised engines from 2013 onwards.

I think Jarv is a rare case of an N18 gone wrong.

Look out for the 2010 lci version. They fixed all the niggles on those.

Mine is 2009 with a new engine about 7 months ago still under BMW Warranty. Full JCW, every extra.

I had an 07 Cooper S, car went up to 180k km before valve stems seals and clutch needed to be replaced. One of the most fun cars I've ever owned.
