Manual is manual, all the same.

Pre-LATE 2010 (sale date around October/November onwards) are ALL Steptronic 6 speed Auto's
LATE 2010 onwards are all 7 speed DCT.

Insane GSI,

I moved from a Subaru WRX ProDrive to a 2008 335I (stock) and I am enjoying the car every second I'm in it. It's a great all round car and if you need the power....well there is NO shortage of it. On 2 separate occasions I hooked up with a RS4 and a SLK55 AMG and my car surprised the hell out of me.

All I can say is that you will not regret you move and will enjoy your car!!!!

Hey guys. How with I know the difference between the normal auto and the DCT. What should I look for I want the DCT. Does the normal auto have Launch control and pedal shift. Sorry if these are silly questions I'm a bit new to all this. Thanks

Auto = normal gear selector and silver paddles

DCT = fancy gear selector and black paddles

Yoh the DCT looks tops :praise:

It is I love it, best of both worlds. In traffic = full auto and play time put into manual and is thing fast with gear changes.

no it doesnt but it will out launch a dct because with the dct you cant brake boost and with launch control at 5.5k rpm all you get is massive wheelspin

these autos are damn quick

if you go and search on google you can find ways to achieve what ever revs you want on a DCT at pull off, and I beg to differ the fastest standard 0-100 135I is the DCT and that is tested and tested.

But manual you can learn to outlaunch both
But as Hoosain says, real life tests have shown that with the normal auto you can achieve a better take off than with DCT. DCT doesnt build boost the way you can in the step-auto and even manual if you know what you doing

Ok so Auto builds better boost but DCT can out launch it. Am I correct in saying that.

I think this is going to be a personal decision for you.

DCT / Auto just seems the logic for everyday use, everyday traffic.

Upncoming just gyms a lot and has huge strong calves...thus he drives a manual. And he thinks he can out launch everyone :fencelook::fencelook::fencelook::fencelook:

Real stud muffin if you ask me lol

Manual is just more fun. For the real enthusiast! I cannot imgane how crappy it would feel if my Supra was mated with a 4 speed auto blegh!

There is also a lot of things to consider if you are going to modify your vehicle in the near future.
I really don't know the 135i (N54 & N55) car very well...so I wouldn't know if the manual gearbox/clutch is stronger than the DCT / Auto version...? I'm sure other fanatics could shed some more light on this.

Example:
The Golf 6 GTi DSG box/clutches is stronger than the 6-speed Manual GTi. I personally know guy whos clutch started slipping when he went Stage 2 software / Downpipe and Intake.

The DSG box can even handle K04 where an upgraded clutch is required on the Manual when you go for a K04 conversion...

But I stand to be corrected...If the DSG box fails...it is a costly replacement where you can come away little cheaper with the Manual. There is so many stuff to consider when buying a car...I would really do some intense research on a specific model and compare it.

Also getting opinions from other (stock/tuned) 135i drivers is important (which I'm sure you will get here at bmwfanatics)
and can help you a lot in making your decision.

If you could afford it...I would really look into the DCT model.
That would be my choice if I ever looked into getting a 335i/135i
