Buying 2008 e90 320i auto with 95k km

Hi All,

Hope this is the right place for this question!

I have been doing alot of reading and I know this car is not popular among the fanatics. BUT this car will be driven by me for a year before passing it onto my fiance. She will drive it till about 2015 / 155 000km. She is not bothered with performance and I can hopefully last until she is sick of her 2009 polo 1.4.

My friend is selling it to me for R170k incl reg and licensing. He just bought brand new 18 inch run-flats. The car is close to immaculate and has FSH and motorplan till 100 000. I might extend the motorplan or get the aftermarket warranty. I am not the DIY type!

I am not sure what is standard on the car but it has rear PDC, Xenons, electric front seats, start-stop button and 18 inch rims.

Is this a good deal? decent/average deal?

Also where can I look for a brochure for this model to see what was standard and what extras to look out for?

Good spec and so on, but too much money for the mileage/model etc!

Remember, the E90's are now going to sell like hot cakes, so even with your idea in mind, don't be hasty - take a little time and search the market. What do you want from the car, performance, economy, convenience and comfort? So depending on your requirements, one of the six cylinder petrol engines in manual or automatic would be more focussed for performance, auto for convenience and comfort in traffic. For economy, a 320d is the way to go, and most definitely no slouch - unfortunately the 320i petrol gets a bad wrap for lacking in performance. Generally I think it's probably not that bad and still a many times better than some other stupid econobox!! :thumbs:

Two things....

1. Way too much, you can get these now from around R140 - R150k
2. You WILL be dissapointed in performance and fuel consumption

I had one for a day and I wanted to set fire to it! If your fiance is used to the diesel's torque, she will hate you for buying her this car.

Let her drive it and give her opinion... It's a entry level BMW, granted, its better than alot of cars out there... But still... It Sucks...IMO... :fencelook:

I agree 100% Diesel is the way to go you will not regret it. I had a 320i which I drove for a day the performance and fuel consumption was not good. I then tried the 320d first being a bit sceptical about the turbo issues that they had with the e46 models. When I drove the car it was fantastic on consumption as well as performance. Trust me if you go with the 320d you will never want a petrol again its fantastic.

its a nice car......but not fot that price
it has all the bmw features...except the power.......if you into that kind of thing....dont get me wrong....you can still kill yourself in the 320i...just a minute slower than a 6 cylinder.

He was a little negotiable on the price, but even with brand spanking new tyres at a cost of R16k included in that R170k price tag is it that bad?

Plus the car is in great shape - it looks almost new, only a couple of small scratches near the boot lid and interior only has a few scuff marks around the foot-well areas..

On the other hand: will have to extend motorplan sooner rather than later too.

cool stuff, the Runflats were R16k? thats actualy not a bad price but for those rims, you could get away with them for cheaper, since a whole set was bought, but depends how much he shopped around and stuff.

You're probably going to remain single until 2015 too, if you give you fiance a 320i ...

I know the 320i is a slouch but women dig this car so I think your fiance will love it they don't need performance they really don't. Going from a polo 1.4 to 1 320i is a huge step up.

I have driven both manual and auto versions of the 320i and that Auto box is just stupid on that car it irratated me more than the lack of power. Also fuel consumption will be crazy with the autobox I was getting 13 l/100km and I was not killing it.

When you test drive it you will see what I mean its a constant kick down and rev to 5000 rpm some times it jumps down 2 gears and you just tipped the accelerator then it just makes a lot of noise. The auto box is just not tuned for that car at all.

I would go for a manual if you can find one and it will be cheaper.
