BSM 1M build thread

So I’ve decided to start a build thread and I “PLAN” to keep it updated as much as possible as the journey continues with the 1M.
I initially decided to keep the car stock given the nature of the car, the limited numbers and the legacy that the car carries. That has since changed and while I don’t intend butchering the car, I’ve opted for what I call “tasteful” mod’s, but there is a fine line in going over the top which I don’t intend doing.

First up, a couple tweaks to the factory settings :)

http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=33439

Next up was the Akrapovic slip on, DP / wireless kit and the N55 mid pipe . The exhaust was installed a few weeks ago and between then and now I’ve changed phones and subsequentially lost part of the install process.

Front suspension been dropped for install of the DP’s

DP’s installed

Slip on installed

With tips

At the time of installation the mid pipe had not arrived. I then decided not to install the wiress kit as this is not my daily drive and to be honest, I just wanted to heard that rumble all day long.

The mid pipe arrived early was week and due to work constraints I was only able to book the car in to get the pipe installed last Friday.

Stock mid's with catts

N55 mid minus the catts

Next was VPS protection. Black vs stonechips :thumbdo:. Kobus at VPS Midrand was recommended and didn't disappoint. No pictures, but stumbled across these while waiting...

check the dates on these...

How the hell did you maneuver your 1M into VPS Midrand's premises?
I opted for LLUMAR paint protection film instead. They did an awesome job and at almost half the price of VPS.
I can't wait to hear what your car sounds like Rowen. I am very jealous of that Akro exhaust.

Hi Rowen, may i ask whats the actual size difference between the n54 and n55 midpipe? i would assume the n55 is alittle larger and may contribute to less back pressure?

I believe that the N55 is .25 inches wider which is marginal Below is a comparison picture, biggest gain is that N55 does not have the catts and it's OEM

Thanks 4that info Rowen :)

When I do eventually do the exhaust on my n54 I will definetely look into the n55 mid-pipe route.

One more question, is the akrapovic downpipes bmw friendly? I know the exhaust is but doesn't bmw frown on the removal of the cats due to emission regulations?

As far as I know the Akro down pipes are BMW M/P friendly if purchased from a BMW dealer.

:praise: I know what you saying. The sound there just doesn't do it any justice whatsoever.
