Broken electric window button on 325Ti

I'm not sure how it happened but the driver side button on the SO's Ti has broken in 2. So now she can't open her window to use her access card, and refuses to do the whole open door to swipe card fiasco. Long story short I need to get this sorted asap so that I can get my car back.

What are my options ? Is it possible to just replace the one button? Do I have to replace the whole center console? :mmm:

Please help guys.

Dude, the buttons come out as a unit, just grab one from a local scrap yard and pop the new one in.

The skirt around the gear lever just unclips out of the base where the window buttons are, that will allow you just to stick your fingers under the button and pop it up and out.

The button is definately broken. Its in HALF! Still not sure how it happened, I am not going even ask!

I was wondering whether one may swop buttons (for the time being) from the back windows (which is never used) to the front. It will look tacky for now, but at least I get my car back. :)

Okay so I managed to swop the buttons last night and it worked like a charm.

For those who ever plan on doing this for themselves, the process is fairly straight forward.

- Remove the gear lever boot FIRST. You will find 2 screws underneath.
- Unscrew them, and the console clips right out.
- Remove the wiring harness on either side of the button controllers. This just gives you better room to work with once they off.
- Unclip the entire button unit of the side you want to work on. This might not be necessary, but it just gave me more room to see how the buttons connected.
- The buttons pop off. So in my case I just swapped them around, as the back windows are NEVER used.
- Clip everything together again and presto!

Saved myself a couple of bob I reckon. I will have to get a replacement button over weekend as the broken button looks tardy. Scrap yards will probably only sell the entire unit as it would be
pretty useless to them otherwise. If I can just get just the button from BM that would be first prize, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
