Brake pads service due.

Hi, my front brake pads on e90 320i must be replaced. I went to the stealer and he qouted me R2200. I feel that this is too much for the pads.

I then went to Midas and here were the prices: ATE pads=R600, sensor=R70. The stealer wanted R1200 for the pads, R227 for the sensor, R9 for anti ssqueel and R446 for labour.

My questions is, will the sensor from Midas fit perfectly on my car or I must buy the one from stealers?

What other advice can you give me regarding this brake pads service?

Thanks

has the light gone on to change pads. If not the sensor is still fine and you can just use it?

Sensor will work, it actually fits onto the pad, so as long as the sensor you are buying fits onto pad, it will work...

It actually is not a sensor, more of a normally closed circuit that discintigrates when it comes into contact with the rotor.

so from that viewpoint as long as it fits in place it will work... so no stress.

And as spy says, if there is no damage on the exisitng sensor, there is no need to replace it.

oh and +1 for flushing brake fluid... good to do regularly

Oh yes, the sensor has tripped, it must be replaced.

zaleonardz, you say if it fits to the pad it will work. What about at the DSC module box, will it also connect perfectly.

Has one of you guys ever bought a sensor from Autozone, Midas, ... and use it on his e90 brakes.

The last thing I want to know is the costs of your E90 brake pads service and places you buy the parts.

Finish and klaar, Midas is the way to go, to avoid stupid costs of stealers. The only thing from the stealer will be anti squeel and the I will follow the DIY guide.

Just out of interest, does the E90 320i also suffer from the brake wear sensor squeak?

This squeak or squeal is heard when the car is moving at low speeds with your foot off the brakes entirely - apparently the brake wear sensor on the rear (driver's side) is usually the culprit. Front left brake wear sensor is also known to do this. From my reading up on this there isn't really a long term cure for this. Apparently you have to replace both the pads and sensor - replace the sensor only and it confuses the system into believing that the wear rate is extremely high as the wear sensor wears down to the thickness of the pads. Probably can re-use an untriggered though...

Oh my word, I took my car yesterday to ex-bmw mechanic to replace my brake pads.
The man did a very good job. He put Meyle brake pads together with a new sensor. I then reset the service interval using the odometer button. Now the CBS says my next pads service will be after 43000 km.
I paid the guy only R740 while BMW wanted R2200. I saved R1460 which the stealer would have spent on some .... Watch out for stealers.

What do you guys thinks of febi bilstein pads, bemow in Pta West and prizes not bad

I just used Febi Bilstein (bought from Goldwagen) for my rear pads after ATE was out of stock at Midas & couldn't find them anywhere else. The pads seem to be good so far, or atleast as good as the Textar pads that were put in by the stealers under MP. The only noticeable difference for me is that they squeal a bit more, but have less brake dust. Just my R0.02c.

I bought the rear brakes and pads from the stealers recently...now R5k out of pocket and that included a 10% discount.
