Hi gents

Hope all is well .

So today my inspection light ( car on lift )came on upon start and went looking at service info it in yellow rear brakes ( it now just have underscores_ _ _ _ _ ) , and when i drive or leave handbrake down , the handbrake light is still on but in yellow .............but Saturday I saw just took a look and it said next 27000kms .

I really don't know what's going on with my obc , and then when I started again then the service light ( car and service written above ) and the it was the same with rear brakes and underscores...

What bugs me is that my rear and front breaks were done under motor plan

I don't know if that underscore thingy is meaning just the sensor is gone or what ? Coz rightfully so it should show me the kms to go or kms passed

Thanks gents

Cheers:thumbs:

Buddy, take it back to the dealer who did the brakes

Could be faulty wear sensors

I'm not sure if they did the disks and pads and all , coz I'm looking at my quote with all the work done , it's was 2800 just for the back brakes , so I'm sure all that was done . Will call them

But Mr Singh it was done just over a year back and I've just done over 10000 kms on them

My bet is on the sensor

new sensor from Goldwagen, (just across the road from my shop) less than R150, fitting time, less than 30 minutes

I paid 170 for both.

I know we did one last month, and it was "dirt" cheap, cannot recal the exact amount hence I guestimated less than R150....probably less than R100...(but I'd rather not be "held" to this amount.)

Hi Guys

Thanks for your replies

I had a look at the brake pads and there is over half life on the brake pads , so it is surely the sensor.

Thank You

Hi Guys,

I'm reviving this thread since it seems to have an appropriate title to a question I have.

When I did my last service on the 340i in November last year, the iDrive showed that I have 6000kms before the front pads need to be replaced. Since then, I've covered 6000kms but the system now shows I need to replace them in another 5000kms.

Could there be an issue with the sensors or is this normal based on the brake pads condition? There are no signs of severe wear whilst driving.

The sensors are not accurate until the pads are gone

Iirc, my X1 is suggesting that I have 70k kms to go on a set of rear pads:eek:

Lol interesting...so I take it that a warning will just appear when it's time to replace them.

Hi

My experience is that the "true" countdown will start once the sensor is triggered.

My car indicated that the rear pads had 11 000 km life left and then suddenly jumped to 2600 km left. I had a look at the brake pads and they will definitely need replacing in the next 2-3000 km.

Yip those sensors are very sensitive, when I replaced pads now after getting the "replace brakes" notification, the mechie originally said dont get sensors as he confirmed that they did not touch the disc so should still be ok. He then did the notification reset and it wouldnt clear the error. I picked up a set of sensors at Goldwagen for R195, error clears immediatley

I have noticed that those values change according to your driving style. It both increases and decreases.
